Security Six

Mosin44,

The way I look at it is this. I have no problem shooting fast with wood grips on my revolvers. And I feel wheelguns deserve wood as they are all steel (yea I know about the 'new' revolvers.)

Wood and steel. If I want plastic I'll get a Glock (and I have them to.)

But when I shuffle off this mortal coil I'll have some real nice ones to pass down.

Purchased my Security Six in .357 Mag, SN 150-77XXX, around 1973. It was the first handgun I ever owned, as I recall. Wish I had purchased 2-3 more of them. Has always been one of my (if not the) favorite gun(s). Has 2-3/4" barrel, square butt and fixed sights. By the old way, the gun itself (as well as the box) has SECURITY Six printed on it (not SERVICE Six). I believe they started calling this particular model SERVICE Six shortly after this. Just saying.

Ok. That is a lowback Ruger. That is one of the first ones that had a more curved backstrap.

Made around '73. And that is why it's markings are different (and no barrel warning labels.)

Good gun.

fishhead1 is correct that the fixed sight Security-Six came first-then, shortly thereafter, the name was changed to Service-Six. I have the following two NIB 2-3/4" low frame Security-Sixes-one with the fixed sights and one with the adjustable sights:
