Seasonal Guns

Stores are putting out spring clothes and it got me wondering. Do any of you have various guns for various times of the year? It just seems that my 4" XD works well with my winter clothes, but in the summer I might need something smaller and lighter. Could that excuse be extended to spring and fall as well?

Nope. After careful testing and weighing all the criteria, I alternate between two carry pieces now, both operate the same and are generally the same size, weight, feel, etc.

In a sticky situation, I wouldn't want to be worrying about which gun I had today, how it operates, and how many rounds it carried.

:(Thanks CWPinSC, but I was looking more for someone to validate a lame excuse to buy a new gun, not an informed and reasonable suggestion. I was wondering if anyone has ever used this reason to justify getting another handgun.

Don't know if this validates your needs or not ... when it's hot here in Texas, I usually just wear a tank top or t-shirt and cargo shorts ... that means either my Kahr PM9 or Smith j-frame in a pocket holster ... now that it's cooled off and I'm wearing a jacket or sweat shirt, I carry a Kimber UCII in .45. Make sure if you trade off guns, you practice with all of them ... just having a gun on you isn't enough, tho it's a good start.

I am in Bikerbills camp. Carry piece depends on clothing, clothing depends on the weather. Right now a 3 or 4 inch 1911 or the CZ Rami work under the 2 shirts and a jacket. Come spring, its back to the PPS and LCP. I never wear a suit or dress jacket , so that type of cover would be impossible.

I split my carry between two guns, a revolver and a pistol ,the kel-tech is carried most of the time like when away from my rural home area and the revolver around home area but both are ultra lite. I also never change where i carry, or how. does not matter the temp. Always in my front pocket for 26 years.

Seasonal Excuses -

I need a new gun to match the pattern of the leaves and grass, snow, wildflowers, etc....

I need a new gun because it's hot and I can't conceal a 8-3/8" revolver in my Speedos very well.... ;)

I need a new gun to blend in with my winter/spring/summer/fall outfits...

I need a new gun because my beach bag has a strict weight limit...

I need a new gun that is resistant to the salt air at the beach, or the salt air on the slushy highways...

I need a new gun to match my tan / lack of tan better...

etc. etc. etc.

Well, guys need dress shoes to match their belts, and sometimes the ladies like for their purses to match their shoes...
So, why not have guns to match a guys shoes/outfits.

For example, your boots need a revolver to accompany them.

Your tennis shoes need a polymer/smaller gun for jogging.

Your hiking boots need a quality woods gun.

Your dress shoes need a "classy gun".

Those are all in good fun, no offense meant to the ladies

In Arkansdas my concealed carry gun is a S&W pre 36 J frame in my pants pocket and it winter it's a Sig P228 in a belt holster.

I've tried alot, and I'm comfortable with my Sig 226 most of the time.

I am thinking of a LCP,etc. for the hot summer when there's a few instances I can't/wouldn't dress for the Sig 226.

I have a seecamp because my m&p made my BUT TOO BIG FOR BACK POCKET CARRY
Well, I wasn't going to say anything, but...:)

I do alternate a bit. In summer, I generally lean towards guns that are stainless or which have some sort of corrosion resistance. It comes from having lived in Jacksonville for a bit, which was a nightmare for guns (salt, humidity and sweat).

During the winter, I'm not as worried.

In the interest of concealed carry and fashion. I think jeans with a sport coat and button up shirts need to make a comeback. (think SIMON & SIMON)

Also fedora hats but just because I think they are cool.:)

In a word: Absolutely

In several words:

My carry weapon changes not by season but by attire, event and mood. It is possible to have one gun for everything but that's like a girl only having one pair of shoes. So, you should have as many guns as you feel needed to coordinate with all your clothing, activities and lofty desires.

Now that's what I'm talking about!:D

I live in Ohio wich has all the extremes from frozen to burnt.
My ccw gun collection has 5 guns,2 mains,2 bugs and 1 mid sized that can do both.
This allows me to have a main and a bug for every style of dress, from shorts to 0F weather clothing.
My main guns are all .45's a 5" 1911 and a sub compact.
The mid sized gun is a PPS 9 wich i can pocket carry or holster carry depending on my needs.
The bugs are a small .380 and a .25

My original plan was 3 mains in .45 and 2 bugs, but the PPS is very versatile.

There may come a time i can do it all with 2 guns, but im new to ccw so i wanted to try as many options and see what i liked best.

Im the type of person that has to justify EVERY purchase and dont spend money unless i can do that. The 5 gun ccw collection has served me well so far.
My only suggestion is try and keep as many in the same caliber as possible as buying ammo for 5 different calibers gets expensive when you try and keep a stock of 200-300 rounds on hand for range time.

I may reorganize and if i did i think i may cut it too 4 guns,2 mains in .45 and 2 bugs in .380 but thats just a thought for now.

Isn't Labor Day the fashion cut-off date?

You're not supposed to wear white shoes after labor day,,,
Perhaps that means no Stainless pistols either.

Therefore one must own at least two of every handgun,,,
Stainless steel for Spring and Summer,,,
Blue steel for Fall and Winter.

Black anodized finish for formal black tie affairs,,,
Green parkerized for outdoor casual affairs,,,
And that's not even mentioning holsters.

Where's Emily Post when we need her?

I agree with chaz88 about the fedoras with a suit needing to comeback in style. The sportcoat and jeans.....not so much. Moreover, I wish good old fashion gunbelts would comebach in style.

Yep

In my part of the US, the difference in seasonal weather (and consequently, clothing) is profound. What is concealable changes with the season.

Summer Carry:
Kahr PM9
Kahr P45

Winter Carry:
S&W N-frames (multiple)
1911s (multiple)
