Seasonal caliber swap?

1st, I live in Minnesota, & it can get very cold here during the winter... & I do switch some options...

one... I normally carry a 5 shot 44 special in either the winter or the summer, but some times during the summer I carry a CZ Compact in 9 mm or on rare occasion a full sized Witness in 10mm

I tend not to carry the autos in the Minnesota sub zero weather... if I "caliber up" in the winter, it'll be with revolvers only ( my expirience in sub zero weather with semi autos hasn't been good, no matter what the gun, very cold weather is not good for auto function )... I occasionally carry my Dan Wesson 44 mag snubbie, or very rarely my Ruger Alaskan in 454 Casull ( I need to buy some good personal defense 45 Colt ammo to run through the Alaskan when it's used as a CCW gun )

yes and no

I seasonally switch calibers but its mainly due too the concealability of the gun. During the hot and humid Ohio summer months when I wear shorts and a tank-top daily I carry a S&W Bodyguard in a pocket holster. When its not so hot I carry a Kahr P40 in a leather IWB holster. And when its cooler or i'm just wearing a bigger shirt I carry my Glock 23 in a kydex IWB holster. But my Glock 23 is growing on me fast, so it might end up being my 24/7/365 ccw.
:cool::D:):o:rolleyes:;)

.45acp year around ...... 25oz. 3" Colt New Agent, 7+1 230gr.Golden Sabers, in a Desantis high-rise "Top Cop" leather paddle holster. (for the heavyweight two-legged predators, heavy clothing or not.)

Never fully understood the guys that swap guns for weather
Then you must dress pretty much the same all year round -- jeans and sloppy shirt untucked. Not everyone can dress like that. I work in an office so a small gun in the pocket is the norm. The same if I'm wearing shorts. In cool weather, I can wear jackets and sweaters and wear a 1911.

Of course you should swap guns for the different seasons.

During dove season, I carried a shotgun. For coyote season, I carry a .17 Rem and a shotgun, since quail season is also open. For deer, I switch to a .243 or 7mm mag.

A fella's gotta have options!

:D

I don't up the caliber, but I do carry a larger gun in the winter. I carry a G29 in the summer, and a G20 in the winter. I figure if I can conceal the larger one I may as well have more rounds and a longer sight radius. I could certainly see going to a larger caliber for that reason, that being it's easer to carry a larger weapon/larger caliber with winter clothing. Also could see the motivation for one to want a deeper penetratng round in winter time to compensate for bad guys wearing jackets and the like. Of course, being a 10mm carrier, I've never worried about getting enough penetration in any instance. :p Either way makes sense to me.
