Search and Research for a Carry Pistol

If you want a simple DA only or striker fired carry gun you have a few choices.
For defense, Id consider a .40S&W or .45acp. They offer power & decent marksmanship.
I'd check the SIG P229R DAK .40, the P239 DAK in .40S&W or 9x19mm, the P220 Carry DAK, the Glock 36 .45acp, the HK30 LEM in .40S&W, the P2000 LEM, the HK45 LEM(DA only) Compact .45acp, the S&W MP40 compact or MP45 .45acp compact, the SD40.
For a carry gun, Id add after market Trijicon HD night sights.
These steel sights are bright & offer a good sight picture.

Ruger SR9c is my preferred carry weapon. It has a manual safety and a real nice trigger. fits my hand well. It is thinner than your Walther PPQ.

For pocket carry I use a Diamondback DB9.
