SD Ammo: Why is it Nickel Plated?

What exactly was the problem you were having?

The rounds stuck in the cylinder and had green gunk on them when they came out. I don't doubt that they were still functional (I eventually shot them in another gun) but don't like the chambers to get gummed up like that. Nickel case ammo has solved that problem.
 
I thought the nickel plating was to differentiate +P. In an attempt to keep it out of very early models with the .38 Special chambering. Cheap factory loads sure can make our pets act out. The shiny stuff acts more like .38 should.
