SD ammo for .380

Some of the more common and respected JHP lines are the Gold Dot from Remington

Remington-Golden Saber
Speer-Gold Dot

The best choice is what works best in your particular pistol. I know it's a bit of an expense, but choose several potential choices to see how reliable they are in your gun. Besides, a couple hundred rounds to make sure everything works perfectly is a good idea. some can be cheaper "range fodder" and some your SD tests.

BTW, my personal choice for my Elsie Pea is the Hornady Critical Defense.

I've always shied away from hollow points in .380, preferring to stay with FMJ to insure adequate penetration. I have considered Gold Dots and Hydra-Shocks but for every decent ballistic test, there seems to be one not so good. The L.A. P.D. recently approved Critical Defense for use in .380s used as backup guns. I think this is what I might start using.

I carry a .380 with Cor-bon Power balls. Supposedly, they have better penetration than normal HP's, but better cavitation than FMJs.
I know ballistic tipped HPs from a rifle do a number on a deer, so it seems like the idea shout carry over.

I don't own a .380 or may never own another .380, but if I had to carry one for SD, I'm sure I would load FMJ's. Or maybe those B. Bore 100g HCFP.
