When I am at the beach or the pool I stick a small 38 or 380 in my otterbox and is strapped to my arm. They don't work past 100feet I think. I would just hire a boat guy to guard you, carry two large knives. I don't know how dark your waters are, personally I would never dive in dark waters. Only in Flordia/keys area because you can see very far.

I have dove an M-4 for work, we rig up a tube nylon sling so there are two straps
HOW DO YOU CLEAN IT??????????????? SO much SALT WATER.:eek:

Let me bookmark this thread. I have to put it in the same file as the other threads on:

Every metal part is dripping with CLP when we hit the water, afterwords a LONG freshwater rinse then cleaning as normal. In any type of ship to shore operation involving small boats, swimmers or divers the weapons will take a lot of environmental abuse.

I really hope that this wasn't a serious question...

I will not be carrying when SCUBA diving. It is of no use to me. As Rob said, getting into a gunfight with a tank on your back and being in the ocean in general leaves you as a sitting duck. Just get back underwater if there is an unwanted visitor on the boat, or leave an armed friend behind.

The Russian SPP, the German P11, or the Russian APS rifle are all made for underwater firing, but you might have trouble getting the import permits.

I can't believe this wasn't an option during my Advanced PADI course as one of the Adventure Dive subjects. I would have gladly traded advanced navigation for underwater shooting! :p

I'm running out of room in my file.

Do you have a link for how to carry while being operated on? I have yet to find a good answer and you never know when emergency surgery might happen

If you've seen "The Walking Dead" opening episode, you know having a gun at the hospital is a good idea.

I'm no scuba diver or seal or ninja or anything really. Just wondering whats wrong with a spear gun? Don't they have some effective range out of the water? Of course I'm not aware of a semi-auto spear gun so maybe capacity is the issue. I dunno just a thought.

That can run you afoul of some fishing regulations depending on where and when you are diving.

This, and they can just be a burden to carry around on dives when you are not there for fishing. When I am on dives that are not for fishing, I do not want to be swimming around with a spear gun because it is bulky enough to get in the way. I don't want anything that could get caught in the wrong piece of equipment hanging around if I don't need it.

I have never actually shot one out of the water, but I would not expect their range to be too limited for defense (air is much less dense than water). However, I would also imagine that their recoil can be pretty harsh and can most definitely pop you in the face if you are aiming when fired out of water.
