Scout optics?

Ray, The remington I have with a forward mounted scope seems to be as accurate as any similar rifle I have had with a traditionaly mounted scope. I can hardly imagine the drilling and tapping affecting the combat accuracy of a scout rifle. Remember, these do not need to be match accurate rifles to fulfill the mission of the scout concept.

True that Scout scopes are Intermediate Eye Relief and pistol scopes Long Eeye Relief, but I have had no trouble using pistol scopes on a couple of home-made poor man's scouts. Only problem I had was putting a B-Square "Scout" scope mount on a Gibbs Lee Enfield "Jungle Carbine" in .308. Mount replaces rear sight, but puts scope so damn high above the barrel you can only get a "chin weld" even with a Monte Carlo synthetic stock.

Advanced Technology Inc, sold through Centerfire Systems, now makes a two-piece synthetic stock for large-ring Mausers that (on the outside anyway) looks just like a Steyr Scout stock but without that spiffy folding integral bipod or spare mag well in the butt, and has a Weaver rail about a foot long all along the top of the handguard. Works great for me with a $50 from midway BSA 2x pistol scope, but could be lighter. I built my own scout mount from 1-inch alum conduit & a 10/22 Weaver rail for my cut-down Springfield 03-A3, with no eye relief problems with a $50 Simmons 2x, and have been doing great with the set-up on deer and antelope for 2 seasons now.

TAZ:

I could have sworn the Savage "Scout" Rifle was already in production and available for about a year now. Is there a newer version?

DORCAS,

Thanks for the correction. I guess I should read twice, post once... I'll sit down and shut up now.

Actually, I had the same question you did. It took me a couple of minutes to figure out what happened. :)
