Scotland in grip of 'weapons culture'

LAK:

The UK media and pressure groups have been warring "the knife culture" since at least 2002.

Here is a BBC story from that year:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/2234927.stm

"Strathclyde Police Assistant Chief Constable Graeme Pearson, speaking for Acpos, said: "What we need to do is, in the years to come, make it as unacceptable for someone to carry a knife as it is now unacceptable to drink and drive.

"Someone who walks the street with a knife should be seen as someone beyond the pale." "

The English once put Scots to death on the spot for carrying a weapon or wearing the tartan. Thought control must be more efficient.

"A visible police presence, strict enforcement and severe punishment is necessary, but we need to educate our youngsters in particular that weapons are not tolerated, and cause death and hardship.

Yikes! Weapons themselves cause death. I'm looking around my bedroom. There are at least 30 things within my reach that could be used as a weapon.

Hey... How come I'm not dead yet?

"The majority of serious assaults are now involving either belt buckles or bottles and ashtrays smuggled out of clubs.

"It's very much what they can lay their hands on at the time."

Outlaw guns and criminals will use something else. This trend in Scotland proves that. Ban more knives? They need to ban belts, bottles, and smoking.

Oh- and rocks, next.

Seriously, there's more of a problem here than weapons. Kids want to kill each other. Cultural reform, better parenting, stiffer criminal penalties for violent acts are needed. These are long term solutions. In the short term, CCW permits for honest citizens are in order so the innocents may protect themselves.

"Someone who walks the street with teeth should be seen as someone beyond the pale."

Knock them out before they can be used for violence. ;)

"I cannot see any legitimate need for anyone in Scotland to be growing fingernails like that."

Pull 'em out by the roots. The younger they are when declawed, the better.

Thats hilarious I am still laughing from that :D

Well uk in general seems like criminal heaven.

soon we will hear somthing like this from them.

"People in the UK have no legitamte reason for hammers or nails. We must register all people with tools and make these weopons of death be kept at the police station."

I did have a encounter in Scotland. Edinburgh, right on the Royal Mile. Close to the camera obscura in 2001. A purse snatch with an unwilling victim. I walked up and grabbed the snatcher by her hair. She turned and looked at me. She dropped the purse and ran. I handed the elderly woman her purse and accepted a pint offer. I can state that there is a great need for increased police presence. I didn't espy a single PC while I was there. Weapons culture? LOL http://www.john-dickson.co.uk www.gunandline.com

I saw a show a while back about how the cops in the UK wear vests with hard plastic plates in them to stop knive attacks. (of course they had to buy their own if they wanted a good one). But the point of the story was how stabbings were very common there and the cops, not having guns, would get knifed and the BG would then just run off.
Can't see that happening too often in the US. Cops with out guns are left with harsh words and then their hands, which is when the knife comes out. Not fun.
