Scope recommednations for a new Beauty

Howdy Chief,

I partially relocated shortly after receiving my MDL 22. I married and moved to the MS Gulfcoast, after retirement in 2013.

I have had to assemble every component from internet mainly. I called the number on the target to get information on load data. The guys I talked with were the same folks who assembled and tested my rifle. They said that they used Norma brass, a modest charge of RL22, and 142 SMK. They said that Coal as tested was 3.00". They also said that was only a starting recommendation, that some owners had best results between 3.0-3.2"

I ordered 100 pieces Lapua brass, the Redding dies, including trim die, 142gr SMK's, 140 Berger VLD's, and 139gr Scenars. Have loaded 50 each SMK, and Bergers. I already had powder and primers.

I had put a Viper PST 6X24, ffp, zero stop, ect. It took 4 rounds to zero and the next three shots were about .3" I was pretty happy with that, I chrono'd 3 different charge weights and Coals and had most consistent results with 50.5gr RL22. Best group was 3.1" OAL, and was under .3".

I am still fiddling and prepping for next time, but am considering 130 Swift Scirocco, to get away from the target bullets.

The only Varmint shooting I have done was shooting turtles around a dam on my cousin's land. These turtles had killed all of his wifes baby ducks. It might not seem like sport, but I shot several from their patio in the course of a day. I have to say the results were impressive. These are fairly large turtles, easily the size of a dinner plate, and I lazered them at a whopping 108yrds.

Yes, I always wanted a varmint type rifle, but had to have one that could kill a moose.

I was going to attach pics but site will not let me attach files I have posted before. I had attached a photo I reduced in an article on Coopers.

Ya know, I'm not a huge Leupold fan - like them a lot but there's usually something which can do the same job with same quality for less.

However, just as a matter of theme/matching, an American-made Leupold would go quite well on an American-made Kimber - it would just be right.

Maybe kife one of your Loopys off another rifle for this one, then buy a foreign job to replace the Loopy on the other one?

But the Zeiss, Swaro, and other recommendations good too.

Chief, it may have been mentioned above, I didn't read all replies. If you can afford more than the 600.00 mentioned look at the line of night force, all American made. I am currently on a mission to buy American whenever possible.

That is a gorgeous gun for sure, I would say stick to the Leopold VX-III in the matching color and you can't go wrong. That's what my stainless barrel beauty wears.
