I'm getting a low wall single shot in 22 hornet and was wondering what power scope to mount on it for varmint & small game shooting out to 200 -250 yards or so ! Thanks !

200 to 250 yds is a LONG way for a Hornet for anything except target shooting. You are into .223 range at that point. Much better to think of it as a 150 yd varmint round.

Oh, I don't know. At 300 yard range, a 45 gr Hornady bullet that left the muzzle at just over 2700fps would still be going over 1600 fps. That means it's carrying a significant percentage more energy at 300 yards than a standard velocity 22 LR has at the muzzle. I don't think anybody would claim you couldn't kill a even a coyote with a 22 if they were standing right in front of you.

For that range, I would get at least a 12X scope if I were shooting varmints.

Most would think of the .22M as a 125-150 yard varmint gun (varmint, not predator, there is a difference) and the .22H is well above that. You do however have to know what you're doing. 250 yards with a hornet isn't a chip shot.

Scope size? Like everything for me, start with 2-7x and maybe bump up to 3-9x. Keep your objective at 32mm, 40 max.

Thanks for the suggestions , I found a Leupold VX-2 4-12x40mm scope for a decent price , no tax , and free shipping so that is what I'll mount on the rifle ! :) I realize the energy of the 22 hornet peters off approaching the 200 yard mark but it should be good for small varmints and game up to and just beyond it ! My .243 bolt action rifle w 6-18x40mm scope is for large predators and further distances with my favorite 70 gr Nosler ballistic tip loads !
