Scope help

I have a new savage model 25 varmint thumbhole rifle in .223 and am having some scope problems. First scope I tried was a firefield 8-32x50 and I had to max out windage to get it correct and with elevation adjustments maxed it was still 4 inches high at 50 yards. Tried two different rings with same result. Then decided to try a better quality scope. Have the mueller 8-32x44 target dot scope on it now and while I haven't been to the range yet bore sighting has revealed the same problem. The gun came with bases mount and they appear to have a good fit and alignment. Any help is appreciated. I have never experienced a problem like this. Thanks

I have had similar trouble with an old Savage 110 I use to hunt with. I solved this problem with a Leupold one piece scope mount. With this mount You can adjust Your windage with the mount then fine tune it with the adjustment knob on Your Scope. It worked on the Savage I had and the Rifle was accurate. My Son owns it now and has had good luck with it. Your elevation problem may also be corrected by the new Rings if not You may have to Shim the mount slightly in the rear to bring the point of impact down slightly. It all sounds like a Mount problem.

I may be backwards on the shimming for elevation, may need to come up a couple thousands in the front, but the Mount I mentioned will solve Your windage problem. Good Luck

Might you have 20 MOA bases installed backwards? Before adding shims to the equation try carefully to see if you get better alignment by swapping the rings or basses from front to back (is that even possible on this rifle?). CAREFUL in trying that they do not tweak/bend the scope. I would also suggest Leupold windage adjustable bases for .223 one piece or two... doesn't matter. Zero the scope with a mirror and start again, using the bases to get the POA/POI withing a half inch or so. I don't think a modern Savages could be that far off. If it turns out to be the case I'd send it back to the factory.

The gun came with the bases installed from the factory. I can try to reverse them and see but I don't think that is the problem

When I recomended shimming I was talking about shimming a Leupold one piece base, that wouldnt stress the Scope at all.
