Scope help?

You should be able to see the bullet holes at 100 yards with 9 power. I could easily see 26 caliber holes with the Weaver 2X10 I had on my 260. Still, a little more power can't hurt, which is why I'm a fan of the 4X16 and the 4.5X14 magnification ranges. I recently got a Leupold VXII in 6X18 and it's a great scope, but I'd rather have 4 power on the low end of the range. If you're gonna shoot paper at 200 yards, a 6X24 always worked great for me (and it was a cheap Tasco), and the Leupold 6.5X20 that I replaced the Tasco with works even better. And it should work better, since it cost about 9 times what the Tasco did. Bottom line: 3X9 will do at 100 yards, but 4X16 seems a way better choice for all around use in the part of the country where I live now - where I have 50 yard in-the-woods shots and 400 yard hay field shots. Sure, I can hit em at 400 yards with a 9 power, but sometimes I like to look em over good before I take the shot.

I have a 4x12 on my .22 mag. I can see a bullet hole in a shoot n see a 100 yds. Bright green spot on a black backround, pretty easy to pick up. I have a Weaver K10 on one of my hunting .22 LR's, and it's fine.(10x fixed) I don't think that anything bigger than a 3x9 is necessary on a .22 LR. The only reason I got a 10x is because the K10 looks cool with the mannlicher stock. Antique Shooter
