Schofield .45 Colt

As per enclosed instructions:

These guns have a hammer block safety in the frame. To activate the hammer block, pull hammer backward until you hear the first click. Lower the hammer into the safety position. With the hammer in this position, the safety mechanism is activated. This patented device places a steel insert between the hammer and the frame and is designed to prevent the gun from firing accidentally. When the gun is not being used, always use your hammer block safety.

One of the very first speed loaders was developed by Webley to use with their top-break revolvers. Like the Schofield, the Webley could be unlatched with one hand and broken open by pressing the barrel against the thigh. This while mounted on a horse. Never tried that myself. Never rode a horse I'd trust to fire a gun while on his back. While I was on his back, that is.

(Still can't get that statement to sound right.)
