SC CWP - how Long?

Just curious, any experience with the SC CWP? I have heard 60-90 days. Met a guy on a different board that was 70 days mail-in. Taking it in to SLED is supposed to be 60 days. I took mine in on April 6, and will post when I get it.
 
"(C) SLED shall issue a written statement to an unqualified applicant specifying its reasons for denying the application within ninety days from the date the application was received; otherwise, SLED shall issue a concealable weapon permit."

I'll translate. Sled MUST either deny or issue a CWP within 90 days from the date of application.
 
No need to translate, I understand the maximum legal requirement. I am looking for ACTUAL response times. On another board, someone got theirs in 70 days. I was just looking for other's experiences.
 
Expect the full 90 days and you won't be disappointed. Anything less will be a bonus. The shortest I have heard of is 56 days, mine took 60 and most take 70-90. I understand that now it is usually closer to 60 than 90 but according to how many people are taking vacation at that time.

I know one fellow that when he got out of the Navy he decided to go into the instruction business. He got his instructors permit long before his CWP. He was an instructor but couldn't carry.

Our sheriff at the time was not a big proponant of concealed carry so they sat on his desk and he did nothing. At the end of 90 days you would get your permit. Don't know if the sheriff is supposed to act on them still or not.
 
Texas Department of Public Safety is required by law to issue a license within 60 days. Of course most people have been going well past 60 days (sometimes over 100) before receiving their license. Maybe SC is different but just because they say 90 days doesn't make it true. Good luck - hopefully more people with personal experience will chime in.

SLED still has to notify the local sheriff and he has veto power. He has 7 days to approve it or disapprove it. If he doesn't do either then it is approved. Unless it is a special case most will just ignore them and at the end of the 7 days then they are automatically approved by the local sheriff. :) If you could get the locals sheriff to go ahead and approve it then it would probably speed up to process in several ways but theoretically they only delay it 7 days. :D

From what I hear they do follow the maximum 90 day time limit. I did hear of a few 91 days but that was due to the mail delay. When you get it don't expect anything other than a plain envelope with the license in it. It is possible to miss it if you don't pay attention.
 
As stated... expect the full 90, actually when I did mine a few years

back the instructor said expect closer to 95 if you count the time it takes to mail and receive... I think I got mine in 80 days or so... recent post have been around 70 I think but still they often like to ride the full 90.

One other thing... don't be looking for a thick envelope or such in the mail... regular letter size envelope with just one thing in it... the card. No cover letter or anything else will be included.
 
It took the full 90 days to get my SC CWP. Applied in late october, received the license in late January 2008. The NH permit also took some time but it did arrive.
 
Interesting thing about the NH permit...

way back when, 3 years ago?, when I sent in for mine (NH) it took exactly 10 days to get.
 
Update

Got my FL CWP today, after just about 2 months! Bad news is I live in SC. I applied for the SC CWP 2 weeks before the FL, but am still waiting for it.
 
Do you have to do all of the ridiculous things it says, like have your fingerprints scanned at some dept in florida for like some really ridiculous amount of money or what? to get an out of state CWP, say if I live here in SC.
 
You can apply for an NH non-resident carry license. That will add the rest of the South (except FL) to your carry privileges.

I'm sorry you think the process is ridiculous. Actually, in SC, it was quite easy to get enrolled in a class and send in the required material. The class instructor handled the whole deal.

Proper identification and licensing is necessary to keep CCW from becoming a free-for-all.
