While I was in an "interesting" part of town last night...saw a guy open carrying a 1911. This is in Texas. He must have been the owner of the business he was at?

...or practicing civil disobedience.

edit: now that you added the photo, I agree: that is most likely a LEO.

He’s a cop. Cops always look like cops. The other guy is probably a cop, too.

He’s standing by a cop-car. Cop-cars always look like cop-cars, even wrappers look like cop-cars. Notice the cop-car pusher on the truck. Only oddity is the tires are cop tires but the rims are “civilian”.

I thought everyone in Texas had a brush-guard. Figured it was state law or something:D

But yeah, I'd say cop. Likely detective if he is carrying an unissued firearm.

Yep. Texas detective uniform. Pressed jeans, boots, button down long sleeve shirt, 1911.

My dad was one for a long time. Although you should hear him gripe when he sees officers in polo shirts and the badge on their belt. Holy crap! You should hear it when he sees cops on bicycles. Words come out of his mouth that women and children should not hear.

Nah. Those guys wear Stetsons and ties with white shirts. They don't roundhouse kick like Chuck Norris either.

I'm not going with cop. The building he is standing in front of appears to have bars on the windows. A brush guard is pretty popular add on and the guy appears to have on jeans, cowboy boots and a holster without a retention strap. Guy also appears to have a smoke in his right hand.

He owns the business in the back ground, walked out to smoke and shoot the **** with the other guy in the picture.

I might be wrong, but that's my guess.

I was in Cabela's in Buda,TX and a guy walked in with a Stetson and 1911 on his belt and a badge. Ranger.

Well, the guys at the gun counter (where the Ranger was browsing) were having an almost sexual frenzy, flocking around him. One schmoo actually bent over and almost stuck his nose in the Ranger's holster to look at his gun.

Looked like 15 year old girls seeing a live Beatles show - way back when. :D

Went to the fancy bistro for lunch, in stroll 4 power dressed women with Glocks - and badges - the law!

Weird post maybe? I don't know.

I was in a rougher part of town getting some tires for my car. While leaving, drove by this guy and snapped a quick pic for the heck of it...then thought "why is this guy carrying open?" Didn't seem like a cop, but I just had a few seconds to check it out. Just really stood out. Haven't seen any plain clothes cops, but usually don't hang out where they would patrol.

I still sport my military haircut and I get lots of looks when I'm in parts of town I don't belong, they probably assume that I AM an undercover cop.

That is just a plain ole brush guard, not a pusher. Not at all. As for no retention strap, well I know multiple plain clothes officers who carry open top holsters of one sort or another. Some with no retention devices, some with retention devices other than a strap or thumb break. A smoke is no big deal and does not put the guy in one category or another. The clothes don't either. He looks and is dressed like any normal guy from cop to business owner or foreman. I do notice something around his neck which appears to be a retention strap for eyeglasses. The other guy is most likely not a cop. Wrong shoes and wrong belt.

No - it was proposed in TX but was very contentious. The governor was against it and the law had some significant problems. More important issues took priority as the parking lot bill and campus concealed carry. The former passed (Hurray!), the latter was killed through legislative and gubnetarial chicanery.

Open carry may come to pass but not for awhile, if you take a realistic look - which is sometimes rare. :D
