Savage

Excelent rifles, accurate as all get out, well made and really worth the money. I have three.

"you can't compare a savage to a browning. With browning you pay to much and gain nothing extra.

Savage all the way"

That's not entirely true, with Browning you gain a nice looking shiny gun to look at and you give the deer a sporting chance to see you :D. You just lack the kind of accuracy of a Savage. No experience with old Savage 110's, just a couple new ones, 300wsm and 223, both shoot great and I'd buy another before anything else.

I own several Savages, but honestly have never found them to be any more accurate than my more expensive rifles. They higher dollar rifles are smoother, normally better triggers, prettier, etc., but the Savages are fine guns for the price.

I've a 16 WW in 260 that is fantastic. First rifle I've ever owned that has a 2.5# trigger pull and printed sub moa OOB! All my Rems and Wins and Rugers never did that.

+1 for Savage

Bought a Mark II two weeks ago and I love it. Put over 500 rounds through it so far. Has the Accutrigger and I think it is the most accurate rifle I have ever shot (not a whole lot of experience). I had thought about getting a CZ but decided on the Savage due to the $. I am VERY happy with my decision. :D

I have several. They are good shooters.

My friend has a 110 in the 270. He bought it for his wife. It is a pre accutrigger model. The trigger is as bad as anything I have ever pulled. Creepy, clanking, you can actually feel the thing grate as it moves to release the sear. I have a couple of pre accutrigger models that have very serviceable triggers, no where near as bad as hers.

Youp, the pre-accutrigger Savages had an easily adjustable trigger assembly. Mine breaks crisp as glass at 3 lbs. and is the best trigger in any rifle I have.

I have an Adobe Acrobat document (.pdf) that describes how to adjust the trigger in those guns. If anyone needs a copy, PM me with your e-mail address and I'll send you a copy of it.

Snakedriver, same with my -06 pre accutrigger 110 model. Made a fine adjustment and now its a beauty at 3 lbs.

The .pdf is a nice product to have to learn how to adjust the trigger.

springfield 840

Springfield 840 caliber 222, alias plain Jaine savage 340. Found it under the Christmas tree in 1965 or maybe 1966. First deer with it few days later, lee loader few years later. Shoot every thing from 22 caliber air rifle pellets over primer only to 70 grain spreers to Lyman cast bullets made from wheel weights. Gun now has new life with a Boyd's stock and weaver k4 scope. Daughter shot her first deer with it. Rifle is on deer #7 now all one shoot one kill. Lost count on everything else but lots of coyotes, enough cans to fill a dump. I have lost count of the extractors its worn out but I think it's on it's third and it got all new springs as part of it's rebirth with the Boyd's stock and my daughter becoming it's new trigger puller. Lots of good memories with this gun and more to come. Ad oh yea the trigger is not very good.

+100 Snakedriver, I also adjusted my 110 down to three lbs, and it's just plain nice, no "creep". BUT BEWARE OF THE SAFETY, because adjusting mine changes the safety a little. I did put a dab of fingernail polish on it afterwards, so it won't change with recoil.;)

Yep hooligan1, my feeling is that the grainy stuff Youp is feeling in that Savage is an improperly adjusted trigger mechanisim dragging on the safety. A proper adjustment would probably fix it in a jiffy.

I have a 10FP in 308, cheapie factory stock and accutrigger, shoots .5 moa all day long with a BSa huntsman scop on it. I've got a 10FCM "scout" model. Would consistently shoot 3/4 moa with a NC star 7x pistol scope up front. took the scope off to hog hunt with the factory williams peep and have never gone back to the scope on that one. Overall i'd say they're the two best shooting rifles I've owned hands down, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. Of course that says nothing about my ridiculous C&R collection, that sometimes cost more and shoot ten times worse!
