Savage xp 2 with weaver 3x9

Bps and Cabelas has these on sale after rebate for 239.97. Does anyone on here have one? At that price im thinking about getting one in 6.5 creedmore just to try it out. I already have rem 700 and ruger 77 in .270 .308 and 7mmo8
 
I don't think much of the weaver scopes and nowadays I buy the savage axis 2's often just for the receiver, bolt and trigger. That's an excellent price IMO, but you might not be thrilled with the Tupperware stock, which I would advise replacing with a wood one-- but many who want a basic hunting rifle don't bother with.
 
A better choice would be a Ruger American Predator. I bought one in 6.5 Grendel for giggles because it was $400 and took AR Mags. An absolute Laser and a great trigger. I put a Boyd's Spike Camp stock on it and it's a dandy. I load for a couple of friends Axis 308 and 243 and am very underwhelmed. The scope mounting "rails" are absolute cheese.
 
Savage makes great rifles... the combo deal scopes however aren't great. But for that money, it would be certainly worth trying out and if the scope won't hold zero, upgrade.
 
"...the combo deal scopes however aren't great..." They're way better than they used to be. The Simmons Savage used were essentially disposable junk. Good enough until you got the money for a better sight but really low end kit.
It's very hard to beat a Savage for out of the box accuracy. However, the Savage XP 2 is an Axis. An Axis is an entry level hunting rifle. No adjustable trigger and you might need to bed the thing. Mind you, you can always sell it. Maybe at a profit.
 
Those specials are as stated above, essentially buying barreled actions to put in different furniture. The scope can be tossed as well unless you are putting it on a 22 for a kid as their scoped rifle. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase one in a new caliber to try out. If you shoot it as is and like it then when you address the flimsy stock issue your going to end up with a very fun rifle you enjoy for a great price ( even after you get a new stock)
 
Axis and Axis II - both are Savage Axis rifles

Axis - No AccuTrigger
Axis II - has an AccuTrigger
XP - Scope is packaged with the rifle at the time of purchase
 
My dad has one in 30-06. Funny thing is that he has a $250 rifle with $600 scope on it lol. It’s actually a very accurate rifle once you find the Ammo it likes.
 
Axis 2 have the Accutrigger. XP is the scope package. Early Axises had very skinny plastic stocks in the grip. Later ones are better. I like the old stock HB Axises that Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore (Ohio) has been selling. They are old stock HB, with Accutrigger, with camo skinny stock. I just got one in 308. They do not make the HB anymore. Axis stock numbers were 19-20xxx, then jumped to 50xxx with better stocks a couple years ago.
They are not pretty, but shoot well. I think the Axis rifles are good deer, truck, camp rifles. The Banner scopes work OK, but I have replaced with Vortex, etc. I had to go up to the Savage 110 for 300 WM.

Your actual cost can double with a Boyds stock and Vortex scope.

I did install an aftermarket Basix trigger on my friends Axis. Set at 3# and they both shoot 1/2" with factory loads, 243 and 308.
