Savage Vs Remington..Im torn once again...

You have got to give the Girl some credit, and not just praise the Rifle She was shooting, Its an insult to her skill.

I would have to vote for Savage. I have a model 12 308 with the 26" heavy barrel. I have shot 7/8" groups at 300 yards on factory ammo, and with handloads I can use the previous bullet hole as a target. The slightly longer barrel gives it a little more velocity. I clock the Fed. 168gr match ammo at 2770 fps.
It will ring a 24" square steel plate at 900 yards all day.
Just my $.02

I'm with Orion regards the comments I see regularly about Savage rifles being "ugly"....

Think I have pretty good taste :), and I don't find them the least bit ugly nor different in appearance to comparable models from other brands.

I have 4 different Savage rifles, 3 that have the sythetic accustock with stainless barrels-I find each to be very nice looking and HIGHLY accurate.

Guess I find my guns to be like kids-love each of them in different ways, including my Rem 700 CDL 30-06....favorite of all to me though is the Winchester Sporter in .270-WOW

Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder!!! and I beholden a Savage rifle man!!;)

look at this three round group at one hundred yds with my handload.

Gotta jump on with the "ugly" Savage comments... If you are talking about the Axis model, then yes there is something about it that just doesn't look right... all function and little consideration for looks results in a cheaper price tag. Any other Savage I have checked out, including the new baby I have on order from Bud's, looks just fine to me. No shroud on the back of the bolt? Slight difference in the angle of the bolt handle? I just don't see how these little details equal "ugly." It's like saying that because I find one super model more attractive than another, that makes the second one ugly... really?

I thought by sharing her story I was giving her credit! :)

The fact that she was shooting a Savage rifle was the sidebar.

No disrespect intended, she is deserving of all of our respect!:)

I could only wish that I shot that well!

1.Scrape up another 200 bucks. 2.Go down to your Remington dealer. 3.Tell him you want him to place an order for a 700 5R Milspec in .308.

You may want to handle a Weatherby Vanguard Series 2. They have two stage triggers that are smooth as silk (if you are open to take-up in the trigger). They offer the rifle in .308 with a heavy varmint barrel and guarantee one MOA from the factory. Based on reviews I have read, they shoot much better than that. I bought one (sans varmint barrel) for $429.
