I just got a Savage model 11 (XP Trophy Hunter)in .308. I spent 439.00 out the door. I am shooting 1 inch groups with all factory ammo this far. I was going to buy a more spendy remington 700 but I'm glad I got this. What are your experiences with Savage?
 
I got my Savage 110 FP when they first came out. Pre Acutrigger. Shoots tiny little groups at 100 yards. I seldom shoot paper farther than that. Love the rifle. Can't beat Savage for the money.
 
I have a Savage .30-06. Wood stock, came with a Simmons 3-9x40. I absolutely love it. Don't hunt yet, but take it on my semi-annual camping/shooting trips. Also shoot it on my wife's family's property, and occasionally at the range. Haven't loaded a round yet that didn't go exactly where I wanted it to.

When I pull it out on the camping range, my friends know I mean business.

Savage is superior to most brands

Despite their lower price. The sweetest thing about savage is your ability to do a lot of customization yourself(with little need for a machine shop).
 
I've had two Savage rifles and I believe they are the most accurate factory rifles out of the box. I've tried Ruger and Remy, but the Savages are really good. I believe the only way to get a better rifle is by opening you wallet wide and going custom.
 
I use a Winchester bipod that I bought from Walmart for about $40. It is identical to a Harris bipod that I have at half the price. Actually, I can't tell which is which anymore.
 
Savage Freak!!!

I love Savage rifles, because they can easily be made extremely accurate and repeatable... I sold one, but still own an ole flat top 110 in .270 winchester, Its pillar bedded, freefloated, has the Wolf "speed spring", Timney trigger, Leupold bases and rings, Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40.. It shoots three bullets very well, and is light, maybe 7 lbs loaded.. Deer killer!!:D
 
I'm the happy owner of two Savage rifles (223 10FP and 308 10 FCP-HS). Both rifles will shoot better than I can;) When I can find FGMM or Black Hills SMK's to feed my Savages each will shoot 3/4" 5 shot groups. I'm sure that if I put my rifles in a lead sled, I could eek out another few tenths of an inch.

Me and my brother both started out with Savage model 111s in .270 WIN when we were about 10-11. At the time I didn't know much firearms but one of my dads friends from church worked at a gun counter and talked me into Savage, which was one of the brands my Uncle's had tried to steer me clear of. I went to the store with my mom and my "paper route gun fund fortune extraordinaire"(About ~$380 at the time :D). I walked out with my savage and a huge grin on my face. We repeated that process when my younger brother needed one...

Now that I'm older I'm so glad that's the route we went. My cousins started a few years later with Remington 710s also in .270 win. They've moved to something better, and I have a boyds stock and a rifle basix trigger on the way.

Just yesterday I picked up a slightly used .308 Remington Model 770. I should have spent $100 and got a new savage. It's gonna do what I need it to, but it won't compare to the savage rifles which have a pretty close MSRP when new.
 
My only gripe is that I wish I could have gotten a wooden stock instead of the synthetic bit that's just my personal preference.
 
I have owned several Savages, they are a great value without a doubt, not the only good value rifle on the market but probably the best of them. I own several higher end rifles and my brother and sister in law both prefer my Savage 110 30-06 to any of my more expensive guns. My 30-06 punches 1/2" groups day in day out with RL19 and 150gr Accutips. My model 11 270 WSM is even more accurate with IMR4350 and 130gr SGKs, that combo punches one raged hole.
 
I shot scores of prairie dogs with my Savage heavy barrel rifle in .223 chambering. Cheap stock, plastic trigger guard but outstanding trigger and acurracy well beyond my expectations!

Savage rifles are KEEPERS!

Bought my son an 11 Hunter in .308 a year and a half ago.
Put it in a Choate tactical stock and planned on rebarreling for our long range target shooting.
Factory barrel, despite the light contour, holds up to target shooting and he can put 75 rounds onto a 10" plate at 600 consistently- so we haven't bothered to re-barrel it.
 
Love my savage 93r17 so much. It's got the heavy barrel, and synthetic stock with a rail system I put on it. I can shoot dime size groupings at 100 yards easily prone with bipod. It is the cleanest shooting and most crisp trigger break I have ever experienced. Shot a coyote at 165 yards with the 20 gr FMJ round.
