Savage Model 10 BA?

Anyone here have any experience with this rifle? I really like the looks of it, but how does it perform? I love how it accepts AICS magazines. Looks to be a good tactical overwatch sharpshooter set up, but I have some questions about it.

1: Is this a reliable platform? Would you use it in an actual engagement?
2: What kind of accuracy can I expect, if using factory match ammunition?
3: Does the gun run smooth, does it have any quirks or design flaws?
4: Do any police departments or government agencies use this model?
5: Is Savage known to produce a quality gun, is in the same leagues as say Remington? I have heard Remington is having some QC issues lately.

Good review on Sniper Central. I'd have to agree about going with the FCP model, I have the HS Precision stock on my LR Savade rifle and it is very comfortable to shoot. Plus comparing the two rifles in .338 Lapua the FCP will save roughly 5 lbs of weight and 6 lbs in .300 Win. The 110 BA will probably come in weighing close to 19 lbs by the time you add bi-pod, scope, sling, and a full magazine of ammunition.

There might be a PD or Sheriffs department using it, but I doubt it is in wide circulation. As far as Remingtons QC going down hill I haven't personally experienced it. I've had good luck with both Savage and Remington as far as accuracy, but Remington builds a nicer rifle IMO as far as fit and finish as well as handling characteristics in the price range you're looking at.

I really like the looks of it, but how does it perform? Outstanding, you can spend more, but I seriously doubt you'll get a better rifle right out of the box.

1: Is this a reliable platform? Would you use it in an actual engagement? If you're planning on going to a combat zone, This won't do it is too heavy to carry. It is intended for benchrest shooters. Additionally, in a target rich environment you'll want an AR-10.

2: What kind of accuracy can I expect, if using factory match ammunition? With Federal GMM 168 HPBT ammo, at 100 yards, I got one ragged-hole groups all day long. At 300 yards I got 2-3" groups. I'm not a competitor and consider myself an average shooter, although I'm practicing more these days.

3: Does the gun run smooth, does it have any quirks or design flaws? The side rail are really there for looks and they are heavy. But the rifle works like a dream. It got me hooked on long range shooting, which some days I consider a curse.

4: Do any police departments or government agencies use this model? I don't know and to me it never mattered.

It is much better than the Remington. All the long range shooters at my range speak very highly of Savage, that's why I bought the 10BA in the first place. Before I sold the Savage 10 BA, I bought a Savage 10 FCP-K and found it to be just as accurate as the other. I then ordered an XLR chassis and installed it. Now I have the same exact rifle, it's just 5 pounds lighter. I also have folder stock so that I can clean the barrel without having to mess with my cheek rest. It's a really nice feature that the 10 BA lacked.

I'm a huge Savage fan, they make great rifles. I have never owned one of the BAs, most of the accessories just look too "tacticool" for me. It seems to be marketed towards the tactical craze that's going on right now, but I think based on the weight and grip it would probably make a pretty good bench gun. Ironic... considering the tactical marketing, lol.

For the price, I would buy about an $800 Savage, a $400 aftermarket stock and a $1000 scope. MSRP of $2285 - seems to me you are just paying for the look.

I haven't heard of any design flaws or reliability problems with them, and that's exactly what I would expect coming from Savage.

Ditto on the comments. Very accurate rifle. With box ammo it shoots .5 MOA at 400 yards. My son shot his 1st F class at 14 with it recently and did darn well for 1st time.
