Savage long actions

They did not do it to accommodate hand loaders. For the longest time, Savage was building .243 Winchesters on an action long enough to build a 7STW on.

Here's a thought: Since Savage barrel are so easy to swap (garage bench swap out), perhaps they realized that people would be desiring a longer action to be able to choose from a wider variety of potential chamberings.
