Savage Arms Mark II BTVS .22 LR

PAHOO If you do a search for the savage mark II trigger jobs there are some good reads.

Rick,
Truly appreciate the tip and will certainly do just that. I am usually fairly happy with 1.5 to 2.0. But looks like this beauty will give me all the options I need. The thumbhole stock really fits well and will probably not go any higher than a 40MM objective bell as I want to stay close to the comb. Still asking about the reciever on the S.S. model. Is it truly a S.S. grade or white metal coating. I can tell that the 10rnd S.S. rated magazine is plated and not S.S. The finish is just not there for S.S. and don't get me wrong, I don't have a problem with that.
Just wondering about the reciever ??? ....

I thank you again and can't wait to get mine!!! :)

I recently purchased BTVS .22 LR, with a simmons scope. The gun handles very well, just a touch heavy on the barrel, but very accurate. The only problem I am having it that it does not always eject spent shells. The dealer told me to use a higher grade of bullets??? Any help would be appreciated. Thanx, samcat

Samcat,
Is it not pulling them out of the chamber, like the extractor is slipping off? You can send it back to savage and they will fix it for free. Great customer service.

Thanks for the reply.

I can load the clip, and aject all the full shells with no problem, but it seeems that if I fire one or two shells, it won;t extract the spent shell that is in the chamber, unless I pulle the clip and rebolt. Dealer said it was cheap ammo, I think it is bull****. The extractor fingers seem fine, one is supposed to rounded on the edge, and the other is supposed to have a sharp hook. At least I think thst's the way it should be. Savage arms does not accept any e-mails for customer service either. I am at a loss. samcat (rmumau@neo.rr.com)

Just recieved mine yesterday so have not had an opertunity to put in some range-time. There are a few sharp edges but for the most part, very well finished. In fact, I am very pleased with what I see. Most of the parts, are S.S. or bright white, including the scope base and magazine. Next step is to mount a one of my target scopes and see how it shoots. Current trigger pull is about 2.5 and will reduce that as well as dress out the sharp edges. Will also be watching the extractions. Whenever I get a new firearm, I clean it to my needs, shoot it as is and try various brand of quality ammo. I will probaly only shoot it as a single shot during this introduction period. Will do a range-report later. Want thank you guys for your post and replies. Hope it shoots as well as it looks. My compliments to Savage. :)

Well, finally got around to putting in some range-time with my new MKII-BTVS. What a hoot. Certainly exceeded my expectations. Started out scoping it in at 50YDS with my plinkers, Winchester Wildcats and attained the groups simular to what has been posted. My shooting buddy questioned me on the attraction and advantages of the thumbhole stock. I just let him shoot it and that answered all his questions. Told me that his wife was going to get angry with me for getting him hooked. The wind today was very strong so never got around to trying out any target ammo. Finished out the time at 80 yd. range and still getting great groups. No ejection problems and good quality and design on the extractors. The trigger was crisp but did note a little spring noise while squeezing the trigger. Not bad, just a little distracting. One added pleasant surprise is the heavy recoil pad. Don't really need it on a .22 but does provide a good bite and anchor into your shoolder. I loaded and shot two 10-rond mags as well as the 5-round that was provided and fed with no problems. Most of the time I shot and will shoot as a single shot and again, the design accomodates this quit well.

Fellas, I'm telling you that his is one fine shooter out of the box. :) Thanks Savage !!! :D:D

So this rifle is available in .22 mag as well???

I know I want one, but if it's available in .22 mag also, I've got some serious thinking to do....

Anyone know? can anyone provide a link?:)

WOW... thats great!...

Would you happen to know if there are 10 round magazines available for the Magnum?

I'll have to start doing some research... I wonder if it has the same accuracy as the regular LR?

I have had mine for about 2 weeks now-great shooter. I will be shooting in a match among friends and was wondering how much difference does
good ammo make? There is over a $1,000 in prize money here.

Would you happen to know if there are 10 round magazines available for the Magnum?

I am not indicating a 10 round magazine for the .22 Mag. but strange as it might seem, I am indicating one for the .17. Suggest you google it or give Savage a call.

Thanx... :)

I'll put this one on the back burner for a while... I'd like a new .44 mag first. And besides. if I get this rifle, I'll need some time to decide if I want it in LR or Magnum.... also, I'll have to save $300+ for a good scope :D

savage btvs

I love this gun, I have been trying a lot of differnt ammo, I tried the following
Federal Hv match, Remington target, remington manufactured by eley, cci green tag,I have bought some eley blues, and some wolfs but havent tried them yet. I had the best luck with the remington target manufacured by eley.
I was wonder what works the best for you all

Best Ammo I've Used Is...

The Win Super X shoots excellent in my Savage MKII SS shown in this post. Don't know who posted the pic... but thanks as I would have! :)

I've also had excellent results from the CCI line of ammo for target and small game.

The CCI Velocitor 22 LR was developed for the small game hunter. Great penetration, and will deliver a clean hole with little damage.

I bought my son a Savage Mark II few weeks ago. We have taken it to the range only once, but we both love it. Haven't put a scope on it yet.

I just got one about 3 weeks ago with a regular laminate stock and so far i love everything about it. Espically the cost of ammo and the lack of noise with subsonics. :D
