Savage Accutrigger

Target Action

The "Precision" target action has a red trigger.
And has a warning on the action stating it is a target action.
I don't think your trigger goes down to 6oz, but as usual I am most likely wrong.
Back it off a little and you will be fine, my precision action was so sensitive that if you bumped the rifle it would trip the sear. I backed it off to 8oz..LOL..
and all was fine ..

It was my understanding that the Precision version has an Accustock and the more sensitive Accutrigger.

I believe that the normal 10 FP and FPC have the normal Accutrigger so Ike should have the normal trigger unless it was a special order or modified.

Actually my model 10 fcp goes so light that if I close the bolt hard enough it goes off.

I guess thats what I was wondering. How did the target trigger wind up on a model 10? If it is the standard accutrigger and it breaks at 6 oz, something is amiss or it has been "worked".

With out going to far off topic and thanks for the info on the accustock.
How is the accutrigger set up for use with a gloved hand? Is there enough room in the trigger gaurd for both?

Sorry guys, didn't mean to bail on the thread, but I've been in the field.

The rifle model is the 10FCP McMillan. It has the 10FCP action in a McMillan stock - the stock is not bedded (it will be, but not yet).

I'm pretty sure, based on the photo of the Precision trigger, I've got a stock standard Accutrigger. No trigger work has been done - I was shooting it as it came out of the box.

I have adjusted the pull weight up slightly, cleaned some grundge out of the action (specifically where the lock-out bar rests in the sear notch), and cannot reproduce the failure to fire while dry firing. Before this I could still get it to lock the action with dry firing.

If the bad guys will stop killing one another for the next 24 hours, I'll get back to the range tomorrow. Besides I just got a new action target silhouette and I want to make it go clang.

Thats pretty dang light. How did you measure your trigger pull weight? Are you sure it was that low?

Range Report

Took the rifle to the range today to work up an OCW load for the 168 SMK with 4064.

The first 20 shots went without a problem. Even though I adjusted the pull weight up a little, I could not really notice the difference (I don't actually know the pull weight b/c I don't have gauge - but it is definitely light).

Then on the 21st shot I had three lock-outs in a row. From then on, I had one about every fifth shot. Each time I reset the trigger with a bolt lift.

I definitely noticed that an absolutely finger-perpendicular trigger weld would fire every time. It also seemed to help if I used the pad of the finger rather than the first joint. It did not seem to matter how long I held the blade trigger depressed before I completed the shot. It also did not matter if I let off the blade completely and then re-engaged the shot.

I'm going to (a) get a trigger pull gauge (any recommendations?) and (b) increase the pull weight one more time.

I got a Lyman electronic pull guage and it works pretty well. I've had it for about 5 years and it is on its second 9 volt battery. I've tested probably 100guns with it.

The Lyman will allow you to test the pull multiple times in a row and takes an average. Or you can do it once and read the result. I find that where you put the pull may change the readings a bit, so an average is the way to go.

One thing about what part of your trigger finger to use - I would recommend that you use your finger pad and not the finger joint for the trigger, if you want accuracy. The pad is a lot more sensitive and repeatable. That is one of the first things I learned when shooting handguns and carried it over to rifles. I tend to jerk the trigger using the joint gap.

The edge of the gap at the finger joint is probably pushing the accutrigger sideways and causing the reset.

The times I have caused the reset, I was pressing the trigger sideways just a bit trying to get the very tip of my finger pad to pull the very bottom of the trigger. I thought that it gave me more feel for the trigger break, but it doesn't work with an accutrigger.

Hi! Not trying to de-rail the topic here but I have a Savage 11 .308. I was curious how hard it would be to install one of these accutriggers because I don't care to much for the stock trigger.

Thanks.
