Savage 223 varmint rifle

I have a savage Model 25 T (thumbhole stock) It shoots MOA with any 55 fmj.

I have not reloaded for it because the ammo is so cheap. Usually $.35 per round or less.

this is my best target this year. The 3 pasted are my sighters.

The bolt is effortless, Its easy to get a 1.5 lb trigger. Magazine is cheesey and I only have the original one. It shoots 55 FMJ great. I have tried 62 and 69 grain, 55 are still the best.

Do you guys know any scopes around $100-$170 that will make the gun a "nail driver" and get 1/2 MOA at 100 yards? I do like Nikon but I am up to any suggestions.

If you want a good scope that will not break the bank I would suggest an SWFA/SS.

I have two of their scopes a 10x42 on a super accurate heavy barrel 243 and a 6x42 on a AR that's now shooting less then 1/2 MOA, I'm considering buying another 6x42 to replace the Nikon on my 223 bolt gun.

I feel the 6x42 is all the scope I'll need on a 223 bolt gun.

I bought a new Savage 110E .223 back in 1985. Can't say about an FV but this old 110 has been flawless.

I never seen a Savage that didn't shoot great right out of the box.
None of the 9 Savages that I have data for have ever broken or needed adjustment. All have Accu-triggers and all but 4 have Accu-stocks. The stocks don't seem to matter all that much.

I wore out the barrel in my first 10 FP .308 after 6300 rounds and had Savage replace it with a fluted target barrel. Took them a month for a reasonable price of $427 including shipping and it came back looking better than when I sent it to them and shot even better than new.

I have 3 Savages and my shooting buddies have 6, including two 223s, six .308s and one .22-250, and all shoot well under 0.6 inches at 100 yards on average for all the groups they ever shot. My son has two more but I don't have data on their accuracy.

The .223s shoot very well and average in the 0.5s for all of the 1642 groups measured with a wide range of powders and bullet types. The .223s have shot loads with at least 5 powders and bullets from 35 grains to 69 grains.
The two 10 FCP-Ks .223s shoot their best 25 hand loads to averages of 0.331 and 0.271 respectively.

My buddies 12 LPV .22-250 also shoots great and averages 0.296 for its best 25 hand loads. It averaged 0.401 for 178 groups measured with a relatively selective variety of powder and bullet types, picking from the powder and bullets that my Remington .22-250 likes.

For reliability, 9 of the Savages have shot almost 18,000 rounds without any failures or adjustments. (I don't have group counts for my son's 2 rifles, but his have never had a problem either.)

From our experiences, Savages just don't break even though we shoot the heck out of them.

I think I am going to get this gun because of what I've heard about how accurate it is. And I was wondering if you can buy a conversion to make it have a external magazine not a internal.

Thanks,
Zach
