My brother is thinking about buying a Bear Hunter in 300 WSM. Does anyone have one or know someone who does and what can you tell me about it? Thanks in advance.

It's a Savage model 16 with an adjustable muzzle-brake and a camo dip job on the accu-stock.

I would expect it to be accurate, and pleasant to shoot if you are wearing ear protection.

I have the 116 weather warrior in .338 Win mag. Virtually the same rifle. I dont like it. The angles of the brake are poorly thought out and the barrel is too short. Basically, its a muzzle flash from hell. I love brakes, I just cant stand this particular poor excuse for a brake.

I'm not a huge fan of Savage period. But their SS rifles are overpriced. You can buy a SS Ruger, get a more reliable rifle and save money. If you are looking for a cheap budget gun that shoots very accurately Savage rifles can be a bargan.

For some reason Savage rifles in the WSM chamberings will only hold 2 rounds in the magazine with the bolt closed. All other brands will be 3+1 vs the 2+1 in a Savage. You can squeeze 3 into the mag, but the bolt will not close with another round in the chamber.

If your brother wants a SS bear rifle buy the Winchester EW.http://www.winchesterguns.com/products/catalog/detail.asp?family=001C&mid=535110 For about the same price he will get 3+1 mag capacity in 300 WSM, 5+1 in a 30-06 which wouldn't be a bad choice at all. It will be 3/4 lbs lighter, not have an obnoxious muzzle break, and have a far better quality stock.

If he wants to save money a Ruger Hawkeye All Weather is chambered n 300 WM, but not WSM.

If you would go Ruger, why not the RCM? it comes in 300 RCM or 338 RCM doesn't it?
I was wrong, it is the "Guide Gun" model, and not cheap.
