Back when I was a young fellow, just turned 21, I wanted a handgun like I'd never wanted anything else in my life. RG-22 revolvers and Raven 25 semi-auto were WAY up on my list of "might gets." They had the one essential feature I desperately needed.
They were cheap.
I remember them being $29.95 for either, but that's probably not right. They probably cost less than that.
I was just married, with a brand new house payment, a brand new car payment (not that the house or car were "brand new", just the payment).
I remember a Smith & Wesson at the local G.E.M. store. I think it was a Model 28, but I knew nothing about such things in those days. It was a Smith & Wesson and it was tagged at $129.99 (I seem to have a memory block at 29.95). It might as well have been a million dollars. I had about as much chance of affording one as the other. But those little RG's and Ravens...I could at least imagine buying one of those. A few hours of overtime, maybe a side job somewhere...
I never did get one. Probably for the best really. It took a few years but I did get that Smith & Wesson.
But I never see an RG or a Raven that that 21 year old kid in me doesn't think..."You should buy that."
