San Francisco, NRA Make Deal on Handgun Ban

jcims beat me to it. The NRA got the extension for the reason he states. So people can sell them for what they are worth, rather than wait and have to give them up for nothing.

doesn't the state law that permits handguns overrule the city vote thus making the law unconstitutional?

I dont get it. Seems to me that the law in san fran means squat.

Any city or state law that supercedes the Bill of Rights isn't supposed to be legal either. That hasn't stopped New York City, Massachusetts, Illinois from not allowing ccw.

"Then you have the greatest majority in San Fran. The Homosexual Community." - ? Where did this come from? Three different surveys came up with 8-12% of the single men in SF are gay. That is fact.

Another fact is San Francisco has been a mecca for New Yorkers for almost 40 years. There are far more northeasterners in SF than natives. So where do you think the politics come from?

To me (a local) this is just easterners talking about other easterners.

As for others saying the law is just a statement, yes I agree. My firearms haven't gone anywhere.

Let those fools ban guns, it's their city. Let this whole ugly thing play out, it is the only way people will really wake up.

They will not learn. After the ban is in place and crime continues to increase you will have idiots like the Mayor of NY City come out of the woodwork who will blame other states' gun laws for the increasing crime in SF. Giving away small pieces of America to the anti's cause is nothing more than appeasment. Appeasment didn't work with Hitler and it will not work with Sarah Brady.

Well it seems the issue is only about handguns, but why is this an issue anyway. The 2nd amendment gives us the right to keep and bear arms. This law not only makes it illegal to sell handguns but to actually be in possesion of handguns. I would think the NRA should be able to win this hands down. If for some reason this law survives it will become the tip of the iceberg for other cities to follow.

While this SF law will probably be overturned it will be on state pre-emption grounds, not on 2nd amendment grounds. The 9th circuit court ruled that the 2nd Amendment DOES NOT bestow an indivdual right to own guns, so the 2nd Amendment in the 9th circuit states has pretty much ceased to exist.(The Supreme Court declined to hear this case on appeal, so the ruling stands) If you live in one of these states, you have no 2nd amendment rights.
