Sacrilege?

She's already got a Ruger LCP (.380acp) and a Bersa Ultra Compact 45 (.45acp) that she carries regularly. I think the whole "I'd love this in a compact revolver" thing was just a passing fancy. She DOES have the Ruger LCR on her short list of handguns to buy though so that'll be in the works soon enough.

Personally I'm going to stay away from Taurus for a while.

My wife will probably buy herself a Ruger LCR next month. It sounds like a done deal there. As for me I'm thinking of selling off my Taurus PT1911AR once I get the extractor pin I ordered from MidwayUSA (Taurus's CS sent me the extractor to a wrong gun then tells me the right part is back ordered and could be months away). Its brand new but the extractor broke after only 10 mags of ammo.

My next 1911 will be a Ruger SR1911.

If you cut the barrel to 2" there will not be enough length to install a ejection rod that will push out the casings. The barrel will need to be at least 3" if not a little more. The Bear cat sounds like a good option though. :D

"...why not get a Bearcat and have it reamed to. 22mag?..."
The bore of .22 Long Rifle's are not the same diameter as .22 Magnums. That and other consideratons exsist for such a conversion.

The difference in bore size is irrelevant. Bearcats get rechambered to .22Mag all the time and virtually any gunsmith who does that kind of work will do the job.

I'm fairly certain that Ruger uses a proper .22LR barrel for the Bearcat but has used the same blanks for the .22cal Single Sixes since 1968.

America is a free country and it's your gun and your wife. But a chopped off single action .22 magnum revolver doesn't exactly set her up for success in self defense.

The time and money dedicated to this task would be better spent on a gun designed specifically for concealed carry. There is a lot more involved than just cutting the barrel off. There is the extractor pin, the sight, ejector spring and housing to say nothing about the gun being dangerously slow to fire and reload.

If she likes Ruger, look at the LCR.

I bet if you wait a year Ruger will come out with an LCR .22 Mag.

Or if you can't wait, do what the other guy suggested and get the .22lr version and load it with CCI stingers.

I think the .22 is a great SD round. I carry a NAA Pug and a Beretta Bobcat often.

I have chronographed .22 WMR ammo, and in a short barrel, it does not reach the high velocities it attains in rifles. I think High Speed .22 LR ammo is close to .22 WMR in power ina short barrel.

My 2 cents,I think it would be regrettable to cut it to 2 in.If you must cut it,I'd go about 1/4 in longer than the ejector rod housing.

Before you do that.I highly regard single actions.I have a single action Ruger on my "buy next" list.

But if you feel a need for her to have a carry piece(entirely reasonable) I suggest not going too far in the "make do" direction. Its serious business.

Your Single Six is tradeable.

There are a lot of smaller frame .38 spl's available.Midrange target wadcutters hardly recoil at all and do not make much noise.LadySmith?Charter? There are some new Rugers,I have not been following.

If you choose to go single action,Cimmaron offers a 3 in bbl birdshead grip small frame in .38spl.Ifs a traditional colt type,so you only load 5.The larger frame in .44spl is the Thunderer, this is a small frame,Lightning.,They are sweet!!

But,I'll say again, there are safer and more practical choices ..32 H+R,imo, would be another mild choice I would prefer to a 2 in 22 mag.

+1 on the Hi Standard snub

I used to have that gun and foolishly traded out of it long long ago for nothing I can even remember.

I do question whether a .22 mag is worthwhile in a snub though.

I'd rather have a .38 snub. Use wadcutters if you need low recoil.
