SA TRP VS DW Valor

Dan Wesson makes a darn nice 1911. I have a CBOB, guy I shoot with has a Valor. Both of us consider them favorites. Very well made, tight fit, accurate, reliable, and good looking too.

Colt Lightweight Commander is also a nice gun and can be had for less than the DWs.

Venom that particular TRP is the custom shop full rail one correct? Not the factory produced TRP like the one we're comparing the valor to? I mean the full light rail TRP is up their with the professional is it not?

I think so? It was a pretty nice gun. Its the only TRP i've had experience with tho.

I didn't want come off as a DW nut, but here it goes.

The DW is frankly a better gun than the Colt or the SA. The DW has all tool steel internals! No other sub-$2000 gun can say that!

The SA will have some MIM. The Colt same. Not saying MIM is bad, just that it is unfitted mass production parts.

IME the DW might have a tooling/forming mark or two. The Colt and SA might be slightly cleaner on the frame & slide.

Still, that DW will be near Wilson, Ed Brown, Les Baer quality....it may even shoot better. DW's really are premium guns.

Pretty sure it is, if memory serves correct, though i could be wrong. That would put it up there with the likes of the SA professional, Les Baer, Wilson Combat, Nighthawk, etc. etc. Nice gun though do you still own it?

Nathan has it correct...and I owned a TRP for awhile, GREAT gun, but my nod goes to the DW. If your budget is $1500 for the gun... get the DW... if your Budget is $1500 for the gun... some grips.. a holster.. some mags... ect... than get the TRP.... you will honestly not regret either.

I'd vote Valor. I've had three or four of them and really without a doubt for the price range they set the standard of quality. I also never had messed with two dot Hienie night sights before but after owning the Valors (and a VBOB), I'm hooked and it's my favorite setup.

My TRP has been fantastic. The aggressive front strap checkering isn't for every one but personally I like the grip it provides.

The only issue I had with the TRP was the FLGR. No reason for it and it only adds a step to break down. Anyway, for $20ish I replaced it was a standard GI plug and rod from Ed Brown and have been very happy with it.

The TRP is accurate and reliable and accurate if I didn't mention it.

I don't think you can go wrong with either gun however. Pick the one you like the best.

I have owned both. I recently got a Dan Wesson Valor. I will state that I like the Valor much better. In fact, the Valor is probably my favorite 1911 I have ever owned, and I have owned a couple of high end ones in the past.

this is the first gun I have bought that didn't have 3 dot sights. I wasn't sure what I would think of it at the range. Well, the two dots work fantastic. You will not regret getting the Valor.

The TRP I had was nice, but I think the Valor is the better gun.

I think this is what its going to come down to.Kygunco price puts the TRP and Valor $300ish apart. Thats enough for a GOOD holster (TT gun leather or Milt Sparks), some mags, and some ammo.

Also I feel like once you hit $1500 for just the gun you might as well add a few hundred more for a les baer.

I may still end up with a DW in the future as Im drawn to bobbed guns so I may have to get a V-bob one day. or maybe a ECO in 9mm.

Now to decide if I want SS or Armory Kote for the same price.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Have both a TRP and a DW CCO. The TRP is a fine handgun no doubt. But the first time I picked up that DW I was truely impressed. For a production gun the DW is amazing. The build quality is quickly evident. I also have a Wilson CQB. You're not losing a lot between the Wilson and the DW and the Wilson cost a grand more. Even the accuracy between the two is so on par with each other that I can't tell the difference. Both will group one ragged hole at 7 yards off hand:D
