S&W sw9ve 9mm

Never owned a P95 but my BIL has one and he swears by it . I trust him because he has never lied to me. But I can say the SW9VE is a great gun. I am on my second one now ( first one I traded for a vehicle ) . As far as accuracy it depends on the shooter. I had a range officer shoot mine and he told me I am aiming for this spot and he it it in that spot twice in a row. I am not as accurate with it as I would like. But I don't get to go to the range as often as I would like. But either way you can not go wrong. And as far as trusting my life on it you bet I do. I have 3 mags loaded with 15 rounds each and one sitting in the chamber. I like the idea of the heavy trigger pull personally as it was designed that way. And I like the fact it takes more for it to go off. Cuts down on the chance of a AD or ND . And if it were me I would own both if I could afford it. As for the caliber I like 9mm because it is cheaper to shoot. Cheaper means you can practice more. And more practice means you have a greater chance of hitting what you are aiming for. And being able to hit what you are aiming for means it is a good choice for HD and SD. Good shopping my friend and do your self a favor move to the South so you don't have all the crazy laws that you have in NY. A lot easier to get guns and easier to get Conceal Carry so you can have protection in more areas. In Oklahoma if you shoot someone in SD and it is justified then you can not be sued in a civil court. Meaning neither the person you shot nor his family can get money from you. The only bad part of moving to the south is we would have to pick on you for being a Yankee.

The trigger feels a lot like a DA revolver which I suspect is by design since they were targeted to police departments making the switch from revolvers to semi autos. Personally I like the trigger on my 9ve. It's a pleasure to shoot and has been 100% reliable since day one.

Okay, I haven't kept up with all of the replies but the 9mm vs .40SW can get very controversial ... I think that you should check this link out and decide for yourself:

Just keep in mind that since that was written ammo technology has gotten better. Not enough to make a tremendous difference, but better.

With that being said, I have a .40 and on paper, ballistics wise, it is better then a 9mm. It has close to the same capacity with more energy, good velocity, and makes a bigger hole. If they are both loaded up with top quality hollow points though it's not a BIG difference. If it's wally world target ammo vs target ammo the .40 will do a lot better. That's one of the main reasons why I got a .40, because I don't want to HAVE to rely on $1 per bullet hollow points.

If you don't have to worry about ammo costs and you are good at handling a lot of recoil, then go for the .40 and vice versa. You should get the biggest caliber that your hands and wallet can handle. Just remember that a 9mm hollow point to the chest is always better then a .45 to the knee.

The Sigmas and P95s are both good. Personally I would get the P95. The .40 is nice but hopefully I'll never have to use it, and if that's the case the 9mm is cheaper and more pleasant to target shoot with. If you get the 9mm just make sure that you have a good supply of hollow points.

For $300 I would also check out used guns and revolvers. You could get a nice 38 Special or 357 Magnum for that. Just something to keep in mind. And if you think that reloading is too slow with revolvers watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWSvjgNOJyo&feature=related

Sorry it was so long, best of luck.

If $300 is your price range then get it. The Sigma series have had a bad rap but they are great guns. I had the SW40VE for a while and loved it. It felt great, it shot straight and was easy to carry (for me anyway).

I had a Sigma 9mm for a few years maybe ending in 2012 before I sold it and it was an awesome gun for the price. If the 9VE is better snap it up. I felt it was fun even for target and I never had a failure of any kind.
