S&W sigma .380

That gun sucks so hard, they only made a couple of production runs before they discounting the line.

Dealers give them away with big gun purchases here. They can't sell them.

I think dad may be dumping on you.

Ala Dan is right. The Simga .380 and 9mm pocket series are throwaways.

If the wife doesn't like the trigger safety on the Glock, you and she ought to look closer at the 380. It has a trigger safety as well. Instead of the vertical insert, like a Glock, the SW380 has a 'hinge' about the middle of the trigger. Looks a little different, but 'feels' the same.

slo, I had a makarov. Wonderful gun I recommend it. Inexpensive for what you get. Totally reliable, accurate, smooth trigger pull, safety. a little heavy. Price was right. Goodluck.

going to a show this weekend, ought to be able to grab a bunch and feel'em. Anyway, the impression I got from a makarov site was that, if parts are needed for repair, you're s-o-l. What do you makarov owners say? BTW, from what I've gleaned from reading, but not holding/shooting, I'm leaning towards a kel-tec, and I may save up for something bigger/nicer around the house, an HK or a sig. Of course, I'll need a shotgun then too, but 3 guns, I'll need a safe, but then there will be room for something else, so I might as well get..., oh wait, I'm getting carried away. Is it always like this?

Slojim, you may want to give some serious consideration to a double action .38/.357 revolver--especially in regard to your wife. They are simple, easily undertood, and easy to use. The loads can range from very mild to hot, and they are easier to learn with. As most people will tell you, they are all you really need unless you anticipate human wave type attack. Check out a Ruger SP-101. IMHO they are ugly, but a female student of mine has one and it was surprising how user-friendly it was, even with full loads.

Semiautos are not necessarily the ultimate answer.

My thoughts,

First buy a handgun safe as noted above, expect to pay around $80-$120 for the good ones. Get a good one. Then buy a full sized (S&W 686, Ruger 100) Revolver in .357. Have your wife practice with the revolver shooting .38's. This will be your "house" and or car gun. Then purchase the Kel-tec P11 or other such pocket nine that suits your fancy. Personally if I were allowed to carry I would get the S&W model 60 or Ruger 101. Don't worry about the HK's, Sigs, or shotguns right now. If your on a budget, the best all around gun for both you and your wife is going to be a full sized revolver. Once you have sufficient experience with handguns and are confident with your skill, test out the various flavors of carry guns and find one that suits your needs.
