S&W SD9VE or Taurus PT-111 G2

Hello all. I am new here and am in the market for a ccw handgun on a tight budget. IF both pistols were the same price, which would you choose? I am talking about from a quality stand point as obviously the G2 is more compact and the S&W has a higher round count. Is the S&W worth the extra 75 or so dollars? Thanks!

The one that fit my needs best. Each of these pistols is slightly different and each has some advantages over the other. Go take a look at each, try them in a few holsters in the method you are going to carry and see how they fit. And if you can shoot them the better. Personally I wouldn't choose either for CCW. They are both way too big for me.

Well people ccw the Glock 19 all the time and the SD9 is the same size. Also I live in Michigan so concealment is not as much of an issue 8 months out of the year or so. Thanks for the replies.

My SD9VE has been very reliable and it works well as a CCW for me. It is almost identical in size to the Glock 19 in both weight and dimensions. Both of the guns have a lifetime warranty. I have a Taurus TCP that I had to send back to Miami shortly after I got it. The repairs were done properly but it took 7 weeks for it to be returned to me. If everything being equal, I would choose the S&W because it would be worth more if you sell or trade it.

Own both---the S&W is a .40 though

Both have been good guns----no problems at all with either.

The Taurus is much more compact

I'd have to say--get the one that suits your needs best.

Okay thanks again for the replies. Still a tough decision. I know the SD9VE has basically proven itself, but the two-tone to me is bleh. I guess I could always have the slide coated with something in the long run.

The Taurus G2 has a good reliability record as well. I would ignore the brand name thing and get the one that fits you best. That said someone mentioned resale and it would probably be higher on the SW.

I have owned both. I kept the SD9ve and sold the Taurus. I didn't have any problems with the Taurus but I didn't like the trigger or the safety. I must admit that the SD9ve is used for home defense not concealed carry. My new CM9 will replace my TCP for concealed carry.

I don't have any experience with the S&W, but my pt111 has been flawless. I think that they are great guns for the money.

My daughter shoots the SD40VE in 3 gun and once I put the Apex trigger and spring kit in the gun it became great to shoot! I owned a PT111G2 for less than a month, it was ok but too small for my hands, I was over wrapping the grip.

I got a Taurus 24/7 g2 which is basically a full size pt111 and its been a very reliable gun, 0 issues with about 400 rounds through it. I'd go s&w tho honestly, its a glock knock off and from what ive read they seem reliable. I held a sd40ve and it was nice in the hand

I'd probably vote for the smith just based on my experience with their guns( model 36, bodyguard .380, and M&P compact). I was recently looking into small guns for my girlfriend and thought about Taurus since I was on a budget, but just based on the hit or miss quality I've heard on every forum I've been to I decided I couldn't trust her life to one. Now then, if you get a Taurus that runs great, then I hear they're awesome guns, my problem with it was the luck of the draw in getting a good one.

Smith has a well deserved reputation for their excellent customer service. Taurus has a well deserved reputation too for their less than excellent customer service.

For the money, I don't think you can beat the S&W and they stand behind it if you have any issues. I know money is tight, but buying a better gun the first time will save you money in the long run. Trust me, I know this from my experience with my one and only Taurus and it's replacement; a S&W.
