S&W model 28 worth the price?

para.2

Howdy all! Not having much with experience revolvers, I thought I'd check in here. I found a 3 1/2", pinned and recessed, square butt Model 28 at a local pawnshop. Blue is beautiful, about 95% +. Locks up TIGHT! smooth trigger pull. I've never seen one before, so assume they're not that common. Price is marked at $395.00, and from my experience with these folks, that's pretty firm. Question is....is that a good, great, about right, or ridiculous price?
Thanks in advance! ;)
( Sorry, this is a Model 27, not a 28. Told you I was new to revolvers!)

It's been two years ago, but I got one, pinned and recessed, 4", for about $265.00.
I really haven't followed them that close since, but I wouldn't think they would be going for much over $300- around here (Indiana) anyway.

The 3 1/2" Model 27 is not the rarest, but they are highly popular and getting pricey. That would not be an overly steep price for a 28 nowdays. Good, 95% 27s don't often go much below $425 in recent months.

You can almost count on any nice N-frame to sell for around $500 these days. The 3 1/2" M27 (especially a P&R specimen) is the premium seller now. I know places where it wouldn't last 5 minutes at $395 as that is a great price.
If you are looking for a really nice collector then expect that price to almost double for that revolver.

 But it's NOT a 27; it's the less desirable 28! Still, the price you've stated is within $50.00 of what it should be, and probably reflects the extraordinary condition of the piece. As for me, personally, I would much rather carry one of these fine old, 'beefy' revolvers than these new, 'fly weight' handguns that I see around, today. Who knows? You, just, may have to actually use it to defend yourself; and, in this scenario, 'fly weight' is a distinct disadvantage!

Para 2!!! Where!!!!!

If it is a 3.5 inch pinned and recessed M 27 S&W, I would probably hurt myself getting the money out of my pocket!

If you don't buy it, tell me where to find it!!!

 Come on, guys!

IT'S NOT A PRIMO MODEL 27. IT'S A LOWER VALUED MODEL 28, INSTEAD!

Still, it's a very nice revolver; and I'd, probably, buy it too!

The 28 are as desireable a shooter as the 27s. Finish no, but otherwise it's the same gun. Whether $395 is a high price for it in your area is another matter. In some places the 27s and 28s are becoming hard to find in really nice condition if at all.

But if it is sitting in a pawn shop for that much, I would make an offer after looking at it again for $325 or so and see what happens. If you have to pay the asking price I don't think you've done badly. They are some of the strongest .357s ever made and easy to shoot with the heaviest loads.

M27-m28

The m28 was sold to police as a cheaper m27 , was not finished well
( dull finish ) same N frame as m27 though.I bought my m27 & top grade
sholder holster 195.00 only a few weeks old ( gun ) kid said he needed
money. you still can't tell it from new ,OH it's a 6in.

BE OF GOOD CHEER

Redondo,

Bluebook rates the 95% 27 at $300.00, 10% increase for p&r. It's a $350.00 gun tops. Sorry.

Fjestad's is completely out to lunch on S&W prices. Buy every 3.5" P&R Model 27 you can find for $350.

Arc Angel,

IT'S NOT A PRIMO MODEL 27. IT'S A LOWER VALUED MODEL 28, INSTEAD!

Go back and read his post again. :p

As an aside, has anybody noticed that prices on 28's have been creeping up lately? Since most really choice 27's have been disappearing into collections, interest in the budget-model 28 seems to have pushed prices up dramatically in the last year or two. I remember that it wasn't but a couple of years ago that you could buy 28's all day long for $225-$250, and now you're lucky to find a good one for less than three and a half...
