S&W Model 27

When I first started carrying a gun, the 5" 27 was still in production. I loved the 5" and thought it balanced well and was reasonably easy to carry. The biggest problem was it was very difficult, even then, to find duty holsters for a 5". Four and six inch in both K and N were plentiful. So, I tinkered around with 4" and 6" guns and amassed a collection of holsters for them. Eventually
the five inch went by the wayside.

It took me over 30 years to find another 5" N frame .357 Magnum. Its a little earlier than yours and, not nearly as pretty, but, I have one.

I would have bought the one you did in a heartbeat.

Funny you should mention that, the Kramer holster that I've been using with my 4" N-Frames actually came from a used holster bin at the LGS (and cost me a whopping $6). While it works great for the 4" guns, it was actually made for a 5" model and, as such, fits the M27 perfectly.

Sgt 127,

Not sure if you know this but those beat up and tired looking stocks are pre-War Magnas. Very hard to find and very valuable and collectable. You might look into having them professionally refinished, reconditioned or restored.

And for what it's worth, I think you gun has loads of character. In fact it looks like one of the non-registered Magnums, a valuable gun in it's own right. I would have bought that old warrior in a heart beat. (smile)

Sgt 127,

Pre war hammer, pre war rear sight...large ejector knob "beehive" head. Front sight and rib set back from muzzle and Pre war magnas - is that a Registered Magnum or pre war Non-Registered magnum? :pI bet it is! Awesome. The only other possibility is a post war transitional 357, but there are very few of those.

Look at you, being coy "my 357 is a little earlier than yours..."

Great gun, thanks for sharing.

Dave T,

Thank you. I believe it is from before the war. It has some kind of extra stamping in the crane thingy area. RM and a few numbers.

:D

You had no idea that I knew what I had, I appreciate you looking out for someone else, that was very kind of you. Well done.

Now that we are all on the same page...I have to have it...please PM me with price and payment instructions.

My S&W collection is without a pre war 357, which is a must have. Please help me!

I think you did well. I love all things 27 and I find the 5" to be the best balanced and most handsome. The 3.5" version is the one everybody wants (and I admit I have a few of them) but the 5" is likely my favorite.

Some examples.

I'm turning you in to your local constabulatory RIGHT NOW for absolutely stealing that M27. And with a 5" barrel to boot. What a find! Good shooting, Webley. Like another poster already said, those guys at GM must not be the sharpest knives in the drawer.

Gee Webley, are you sure you want to go using up all your luck so early in the year??? :D

I note the 2 5" nickel M-27s do not have a red front sight insert, my 4" nickel M-27-2 does, don't think I could fire it without it.
