S&W Model 1500 25-06 *Help*

I have a Smith & Wesson Model 1500 25-06 that belonged to my late father. I have never been very involved with guns, and only have this one & an old muzzle loader that his grandfather had. That being said the S&W book or the Blue Book are not very practical for me. I was wondering if anyone could help me date & value the gun? The serial # is Pn533**.
I apologize if this isn't the right place for this post, I'm a newbie. Also is there somewhere to research the muzzle loader. It doesn't have any serial numbers, but it has A S A BENNETt NO.2 stamped into the top of the barrel. That's the only marks on it. Thanks in advance for any help.
 
You could try looking up the S&W on Gun Broker or Armslist to see what other folks have asked for theirs.

I don't know anything about the muzzle loader.
 
The S&W 1500 was made by Howa and imported under the Smith & Wesson label in the early 1980s. I bought a S&W 1500 in 1983 during their big launch. Good, accurate, moderately priced rifle. Within a few years, S&W had quit importing them and they were being sold under the Howa name by RSR.

Value is around $300-350, depending on condition. You can buy a brand new Howa 1500 with walnut stock and scope for around $700.
 
The muzzle loader might be reproduction. Post some pics here or in the black powder forum.

In either case condition is the key to value.
 
A used S&W(HOWA) is somewhere in the $250-350 range and a lot depends on condition, type of stock material, and local market. A few years back, I bought a .223 heavy barrel S&W with a $200 scope, mounts, bipod, gun case, and 50 rounds of ammo for $500-550. The owner used it on a single prairie dog hunt and sold it so condition was minty.

Thanks for the info. I got in touch with one gunsmith who used to do warranty work for S&W and he said between 73-77 from the serial number, so maybe his memory was off a little. The last box of shells my father had reloaded was dated in 1983 though so that's all I have to go off of.
 
Muzzleloader

Here's a few pics of the muzzleloader. A local gun store told me they thought it was possibly late 1800's to early 1900's and possibly a custom kit gun that could have been engraved.

I'll need pictures sent to me. Looking at those you posted doesn't help much because they are too small and not detailed enough.
 
I have the same gun, but in .243. Nice well made rifle. As stated its basically a rebadged Howa/ Vanguard. Has a nice workmanship quality and a glass bead in the stock. Mines pretty accurate too. Dad got it from pawn shop as my first rifle. I'm going to use it to play with reloading and testing .243 then maybe eventually get a heavy barrel or more specialized .243 gun.

Also yeah even though a rare make of the Howa 1500 rifle to be under the Smith name since they only did it for a few years it's not worth much. Not worth selling really just keep it and shoot it it's a good performer.
