S&W model 10?? Is it a good gun?

It sounds like pretty much everyone has said how good a model 10, but I don't think anyone has talked about the trigger.
Probably because, based only on the trigger, going from a High Standard to a Smith is a downgrade.

There's no comparison between the two.

Maybe with several hundred dollars invested, the M10 could come close to having what a stock High Standard has - maybe..

While I love a Smith trigger, it's not even close to the excellent trigger on even a lowly Sport King.
The two Sport Kings in my safe let off at a crisp sub 1 pound.

There are millions of M-10's out there

Revolver design hasn't really progressed much since the model 10's introduction.
It will last a lifetime and probably that of your favorite grandchild as well.

I appreciate the responses guys. I posted an ad on armslist for my high standard stating that I wanted a revolver. The model 10 is the only revolver that I've been offered so I asked you guys about it. I'm not obsessed with it by no means but it seems that nobody in my area is interested in the high standard. Not sure why.

Here is a quick search using www.gunwatcher.com

As little as 190.00 to as much as you want to spend for a model 10.

Honestly, they are about my least favorite S&W product of their wheelgun line. (Put the torches and pitchforks down)

My father has about 7 of them in his collection, from M&P's pre model 10 designation to actual 10's. He does have one nickel M&P that was from the Canadian Mounties, with stag grips that I am slightly fond of..

I would keep the HS, and just buy a 10..they are everywhere you look.

DC...
Not to long ago you were looking for the date range and info on your HS.

Did you ever get a chance to shoot her?
Maybe if you didn't, I'd hope you do, heck, may just want to keep it.

High Standard, Colt (single action .22's) and Dan Wesson seem to go up and down.
Sometimes you can't give them away, then, for no reason, the demand for them goes nuts and people ask and get insane prices for them.

Here's why I recommend hanging onto your Sport King.
If you don't hate or dislike it for any reason, at some future point you'll probably recall how light and crisp the trigger is or how good it feels in your hand and points so naturally.
Those are the two biggest assets of a High Standard.

Then, when you go out to look for a replacement, you'll find the prices are through the roof - - and the prices on the Model 10 S&W have either stayed the same or gone down a bit.

Keep your gun and go buy your self a Mod 19 S&W so you can shoot 38 & 357 If you want a 38 Sp only look for a Mod 15 it has a rear sight that you can adj. They were the S&W that most police had when they started to go auto. GOOD LUCK

To be honest, Model 10s have one SERIOUS problem.

They multiply. Like rabbits. Like cats. Like longhorn cattle.
If you let one follow you home, it will put the call out to others, and they WILL come.

You have been warned.

Listen to Shep...

It's the call of the K frame.

:D They have it right, Model 10's have to be spayed or neutered, they do multiply like rabbits or cats. I started out with a 10-8 nickel HB, now there are 12.

Dc777 - I had a Sport King years ago and it was a great little fun gun for what it was, a 22 for plinking around. A Model 10 is like apples to oranges, 22RF vs 38SPL, semiauto vs revolver but life is about changes, right? If at all possible I would keep the Sport King and add on a Model 10 just for diversity (I hate that word).
To me, if it says Smith & Wesson on the barrel you can't go wrong. And like Shep says, they multiply. First a Model 10, then what would it be like if it had adjustable sights (Model 15), then what would it be like in 357Mag (Model 13) and then...and then...and then...Enjoy the ride.
