S&W Model 10-7 Sexiness

Just got back from the gunshow here. I have been looking for a pre-lock S&W model 10 for some years and never really found a good example. Last week I found a 100% model 10-5 at a pawn shop but they wanted $599 for it so I hesitantly passed. Today I ran across a table with this one. It is 100% blueing, not a turn ring or burn marks on the front of the cylinder. It is a Royal Hong Kong police gun. The lanyard ring sold me on it. Feels like a mini 1917 :) I wanted a shooter so I think this was a good buy.

Enjoy the picture goodness :D

I paid high for it I think. $495. It was worth the extra cash to finally have one.

In these parts, 90% or better pre-lock S&Ws go for alot.

Very nice. Some of the best freehand groups I've ever shot were with a stock 10-5. Nothing balances quite like the pencil barrel.

There's just something about the look of a lanyard ring and a tapered barrel that has always appealed to me, maybe it was too many adventure movies as a kid. The only thing that I would change on that revolver would be to add a Tyler T-Grip to complete the retro-cool look.

Gotta love the model 10's and that one was a great find! Let us know how she shoots.

Nice model 10 you got there.

I guess I'm glad I got my 10-5 for $325 a couple of years ago then. It's a five inch barrel, which is relatively uncommon. I forgot that I had it until a week or two ago.

Ok, im missing something. Can someone fill me in, in detail, what is so nice about the pencil barrel?? I have never seen one in person, my m15 is a heavy barrel as is every m10 i have ever seen.

What does the pencil barrel offer, besides looks? When i see a pencil barrel i see something that almost looks fragile, like it could bend at the slightest drop or scuff. From a riflemans point of view a thin barrel heats up faster and groups open up more quickly.

So is it just looks that make people like the pencil barrels?? Im not attacking, just geniuenly curious about this.

They are balanced better. Many, like myself, like the vintage look also. I like the heavy barrels also. They are plenty strong though.

I agree that the pencil barreled guns have better balance. They may not be as fast on follow up shots as the heavy barrels but they sure do balance well.

To the OP. I think I'd have jumped on that one too. The price might have been a little hight, but the RHKPD marking are worth something. :D

My more mundane 10-7

I used to think the tapered barrels looked quaint and old fashioned.

Today, I like them because they DO look quaint and old fashioned. ;)

They also happen to balance just right to me. A heavy barrel feels muzzle heavy in my hands.

Looks great Cajunbass. The one at the pawn shop for $599 had box and papers like yours. I still want it :D

Now that I have my model 10 itch filled (for now), I'm on the lookout for a nice 4" model 28 with service grips. Gotta get my gun fund built back up a bit first though :)

Yes, I caused the turn ring. It was perfect till I played with it for a few hours :D I still havent shot it though (yet). I plan on putting at least a hundred rounds thru her this friday.

Nothing like the classic look of a M&P or model 10 with the tapered barrel. It speaks of the classic law enforcement revolver back in the day.
