S&W makes good!!!

Hey gang, I started a thread about a month ago concerning how my S&W Model 19 had a catastrophic failure while target shooting. Among other things, the forcing cone had split. I talked with a rep yesterday and they are going to replace the 19 (which has not been made in at least a decade) with a new M&P 40 Compact. They were going to give me a new Mod. 686 but I already have one of those. So, I just wanted to give them kudos for going above and beyond in their dealings with me. Thank you Smith & Wesson!!!

I love my little M&P .40 Compact. I shoot better with it than my FS, and the trigger's better too . . . very smooth in comparison.

Your mileage may vary, of course ;)

That is fantastic service. I'm sure S&W could have found several points on which to debate or point fingers. Good for them making it good to go for a customer!

i just watched the new video on their website about the new personal defense pistols and they look awesome. integrated laser, and not much bigger then the Ruger LCP. Looks like the market is really heating up and there is some good competition.

Glad to hear you were well taken care of. S&W's conduct does not suprise me as they are known to have excellent customer service (I've been more than satisfied every time I've dealt with them).

Hey jglsprings, I didn't think to take photos of the damage before I sent the gun in. If it's of any help: the forcing cone had split along the bottom, the cylinder was all geeked up (you could no longer push it back into the frame), and the trigger could no longer be pulled in double or single action. Cosmetically the gun looked fine.

And this is what I love to see: Companies admitting their fault in product failure and doing exactly what they can to fix it, even at personal cost. Congratulations on getting the new gun (even though it sucks about your Model 19)!

That Bodyguard 38 does look awesome, I think I'll grab one of those instead of an LCR. Would have been great if S&W had offered one of the first ones to the Furminator.

Thanks for posting the thread! It's always good to hear of companies doing right by their customers. Not everyone does these days.......
Good stuff!

I dont know how satisfied I would be with that replacement, not the the M&P .40 isnt a fine firearm, its just I can get one NIB at my local gunstore for $479. Considering they were going to give you a 686, up to $150 more than the M&P, I would request something a little more pricy. Regardless good luck with the M&P and its good to see S&W taking care of their customers.

Where is the "fault"? Some M-19s were abused/destroyed by hot loads. Without seeing pics, one cannot determine what is going on here.

S&W has gone well above and beyond here, as this is likely a 20-30 year old gun (mine was made 32 years ago). How many other companies will replace (or the next best thing, seeing as they don't produce that model any more) a 30-year old gun that was likely abused or damaged through no fault of the manufacturer?

Two BIG thumbs up for S&W.

In the last couple years under the new management S&W has really turned into one of the premier firearms companies out there. I had no interest in them before 2007 but I have become a fan.

That's incredible customer service, a rarity these days! It may be time to start watching their stock again :) I've made some good money off of their stock in the past several years, but I sold out when it got too pricey last year.

Great news! You gotta love Smith & Wesson CS.

Once you get your new M&P40c, you really should get the new Apex Tactical sear. This $29 upgrade give the M&P the best trigger this side of a tuned 1911.

I bought one to see what kind of change it would make on my M&P40 FS, and I can only say WOW! Now I'll be getting four more Apex sears for my other M&P's... Even the Pros.
