S&W Just Announced An Agreement With the WH

I just saw this on AP. S&W has agreed to
include trigger locks within 60 days, include
internal locks within 2 years. This move
gets them off the hook with the lawsuits.
I had planned to buy a M686, but will now
buy Ruger. P*** on'em!!

Analysis? SW sells pistol locks now, so does this mean that the price will be bumped to include these? Will internal and 'child-proof' locks be something that gets in the way of legimate gun users, or will they be as easy to by-pass as external locks? Is an internal serial number an issue? I'd like to know more (and hear more from those with more experience in these areas than I have) before reacting too strongly.

S&W already includes trigger locks with all new handguns. And the internal locking devices haven't hurt Taurus any. I'll repeat what so many others have said before. Smith and Wesson is a business. They have an obligation to their investors to make a profit. This settlement costs you and me nothing. Throw the trigger lock away and don't use the internal safety. There, you have just foiled Clinton.

In the meantime, S&W avoids hundreds of thousands of dollars in litigation costs, costs that would have been passed along to the consumer. A company that has been in business for more than a century won't be put out of business by one bad jury decision. How do we lose? I planned to buy a S&W revolver later this month. Nothing they have done here has changed my mind.

The really scary part is after 2 years,
their guns have to be child-proof for a 6
yr old! I am reminded of one of Murphy's
Laws:

"Make something idiot proof and only an
idiot will use it."

You are absolutely correct about this being
a S&W business decision. My decision to buy
Ruger instead of Smith is also a business
decision. I simply decided to take my business elsewhere.

I just read this story on CNN's site. This quote from the story sums up the government's agenda:

"What we do here today is only the first step, but it is a big step indeed. The
principles of the agreement will provide a framework for a new, enlightened gun policy for this nation." - HUD Secretary Andrew Cuomo.

He says it himself, this is *only the first step*!

I wonder if S&W is counting on a new administration to lift these restrictions before they are due to be imposed.

Uh, Ruger has screwed us worse than British owned Smith and Wesson. And, Ruger is American owned and operated. And lets not forget about Colt.........etc.

This is about survival - nothing else.

This has a lot to do with nothing! Absolutely nothing was gained or lost by this so called deal. Look at it this way, Smith & Wesson just sold beach front property to this Administration in Arizona. Just comes to show how stupid our government really is. It get the law suits off the manufactures back and all but insures the flow of firearms will continue. So Klinton claims victory, BFD. I get the satisfaction knowing that he's a dumb ass.

I am a big fan of S&W wheelguns for carry since 1996.

The part that bothers me is making their handguns "not readily operable by a child under 6 years of age". What does this mean, twenty pound trigger pulls? :(

And I don't like integral locks. More parts to go wrong.

Adding S&W to the list of Ruger, Colt and Remington. :(

I posted this elsewhere and will post it here. Since all my kids are of age and all my guns are secured in a safe,Any and all mandatory gun locks that I don't need and that I'am also paying for. Will be collected in a box and shipped to a responsible Politco
with a not so nice note explaining where these may be deposited / shoved :D Since I have no use for either of the above mentioned there will be no great loss to myself :)
Also since here of late I have been making some real good buys in the used sector and unless it is something I really want from new
I will continue to do so. P*** on them all :)
Nothing but losers all of them
Now I need my Blood pressure stuff aarg#@!?#*

Happy Shooting :)

In my opinion this is a business decision by S&W which, like it or not, is garnering them positive press and may make it less likely that we will lose ALL our guns.

Please, please, buy what you please. But please don't send nasty letters to politicos from you as a gun owner. It is lost on them and counterproductive to OUR interests as gun owners.

I wonder if this now means S&W will be messing up the new Schofield with this anti gun horse****. That would be a crying shame and I was gonna get one :(

Happy Days Ahead Fellas :) Somewhere over the rainbow :D

Happy Shooting :)

I probably will still get a Schofield it's on my most gotta have list :)

I have purchased my last new Smith&Wesson product. I hope that you have purchased your last one also.

The advent of SAFE SMART GUNS will make the old ones DANGEROUS STUPID GUNS. This will open the door for the legal confiscation and destruction of ALL types of firearms in the interest Of PUBLIC SAFETY AND HEALTH.

BOHICA! Bend over here it comes again!

This isn't S&W's fault. It's Clinton. He forced them to choose between knuckling under or going bankrupt. You can certainly boycott
S&W if you want. You can also not vote, or let your vote allow an anti to take office.
Then you'll be boycotting Ruger, Glock, Kimber, Wilson, Remington, Winchester, Springfield, Les Baer, and any other name you can come up with. But your boycott at that point won't be of your own volition.

That's right. Let's "show em" all a thing or two and not buy any more guns from S&W since they wouldn't spend all their money fighting lawsuits. Then, when they're bankrupt and out of business, we can all be real smug about how we showed those gun control people a thing or two. Jeez. Which would you rather have, no more S&W at all or guns with two serial numbers and a gun lock in the case? What we all want, no more restrictions, isn't going to happen. I hate to compromise too because the compromises always seem to go one way, that is, against gun owners and for more gun control but you might as well face it, all of us on this forum are in a distinct and shrinking minority these days. We probably all belong in the the 1800s instead of the 21st century. I'm just glad S&W didn't decide to get out the gun business altogether.

I just read the report at my gunstore. They also said no sales to anyone untill a firearms safety course had been completed.

bubbaturbo: For any of you who haven't already done so, come on over to the Legal forum.

We gotta get your minds right. :D
