S&W 8-shot .357 looks interesting....

Does anyone have one? It's been a long time since I've purchased a revolver, but an 8-shot .357 in a compact revolver format has me intrigued. How thick are these things?

You're talking about the S & W Models 627 and 327 in several iterations. These are all built on Smith's large N frame. I don't own a 627 although I do own its predecesser, the Model 27, and the dimensions of the two guns are identical. I've fired a 627 on a few occasions. The 627 is an extremely well made, durable, and accurate gun. The all stainless version weighs well over 40 ounces and is a pretty hefty chunk of metal. It's not an easily concealable piece. On the other hand, its size and weight make handling .357 rounds an absolute piece of cake.

The Model 327 is built on a large light alloy frame -- almost a pound lighter than the 627. And the 327 costs more than a grand (around here at any rate). I have shot the 327 with 38 Special loads and it was a pleasant experience -- with Magnums though I might prefer the 627. Both are really cool guns (the 627 being the more traditional of the two).

I own a TRR 8. Suhweeeet! Great revolver. N frame round butt, 5" bbl, top removable rail, bottom rail in integral to the barrel. Light weight and handles .357 like a model 10 does .38's. Cut for moon clips... Quick reloads. Only thing missing is a holster. Still looking for one...

I really like the S&W R8 for this. A revolver with a rail turns me on in a way I can't really describe. And in NYS we can only have 10 round magazines anyway so an 8 round revolver is damn near the perfect weapon.

Imo, once you take capacity out of the semi-auto vs. revolver argument revolvers win in every way.

Yup, also own a TRR8 here, and they really are that great. But I have two holsters for it... Blade-Tech makes one, and if you aren't a big fan of the kydex, there's the Simply Rugged Holsters Sourdough Pancake.

I HAVE conceal carried (shoulder holster) the 627 V-comp. It's the most accurate and plesant shooting revolvers I own...but "compact' is not a word I'd use to describe it.

I wanted a 327 Night Guard for carry in the worst way...until I held one at the LGS and imagined living with one on a daily basis. It's a large framed revolver with a nice, wide cylinder tucked in the center. It has a great feel and fits my large hands perfectly. Much as I'd like to have the 8 round capacity, I'm leaning more toward the 386 Night Guard on the L frame, simply for the ease of day to day issues relating to its size.

I've got a couple of 8 shots and I can tell you they are a lot of fun to shoot. I like to go to the range with close to 20 moonclips loaded up. You can get a lot of good work in. You can vary your strings of shots up for realistic training if you are interested in defense work. Reloading is lightening fast with the moons. Plinking is alot of fun also. The 8 shot is a great revolver in my opinion. Wish they could have figured out how to do it about 20 years before they did. Might have competed with the autoloader for the police duty holster.

I have 2 327's one in the nightguard series and the other being the snubnose performance center model. I really like them both and have some 5 star speedloaders that work well in either revolver. Both are a bit large for CCW but I have carried in the winter in my jacket. Both seem to be well made and I have had zero problems with any ammo so far, 38's and the 357MAG rounds. I do want to try out the 627's as they sure look nice too!

This is what you are looking for, 627pc (blood work). It is number 7 from the first run of 150.

Shooting4Life: That gun looks so cool. I am absolutely blown away.

It does, but it's not as carry able as the 327 (Aluminum frame) snub, but it looks so much cooler, and I'm sure it takes up recoil better too.

I carry these once in a while, a 627 V-comp, and a 327 R8 M&P in a shoulder holster, not in the summer in Vegas though.

I would really love an 8 shot 3.5 in N frame Smith!

Never heard of it, that I recall.

Not an endorsement, but Taurus makes a 7 shot small frame snubbie. Model 617.

Are you sure it's not a medium frame? I can't imagine making 5 shot into a 7 shot. Unless they make a 6 shot small frame, it must be a medium frame,.... I think.

Taurus calls it a compact frame. 6.625" L, 5.1" H and 1.53" wich is pretty thin for 7 shots. 28 oz. in blue. They used to make it in titanium. Had one, it's really pretty compact.
