S&W 625 "snub" in 45 ACP

No, you didn't miss anything. Either a full moon clip or a 2 or 3 round moon clip holder will have to be used. I'm not 100% sure about the partial moon clips. Without the moon clips the round drops to deep into the chamber. Speed strips would be useless unless as you asked he would have to transfer the rounds to a moon clip.

Thanks Don, I am not very familiar with the use of moon clips. I only have two revolvers, a S&W 642 and a Ruger GP100, neither of which use moons so I was not sure as to the operation.

Many folks seem to object to the use of full moon clips. I don't understand that as it makes possible the fastest reload possible for a revolver, particularly in the 45 ACP chambering.

For those who just refuse to take advantage of this advantage with moon clips, the above mentioned Tuff Products makes both a 5-round and 6-round speed strips for 45 Auto Rim. The only justification I can think of for this would be to carry spare ammunition as inconspicuously as possible, like in a pocket.

Not considering .45 Auto Rim ....

I sold my 625 3-inch as I didn't like the balance compared to the 624 3-inch.

But I can understand why some would like to carry the 625. I had some Ahrends boot-style grips for it and after sanding down the finger groove a bit, I thought those grips made for a compromise in size and feel. And yeah I'll kick myself someday for selling the gun although I still have the Ahrends grips.

And yes, the .45 ACP rounds will headspace in the cylinder just fine and will fire, all without any type of clip. The clips are for ejecting and moments later, faster reloading.

So if you like the Speed-Strip type (which is registered Bianchi trademark and only in .38 / .357) you can get a certain Quick-Strip from Tuff Products. The model number is 641 and the site says:

6 ROUND .243/.257 ROBERTS/.270/.308 .30-06/.338 FEDERAL/.41 MAGNUM/.45ACP

So you carry the gun loaded with a clip, and for a speedy reload you could have ONE Quick Strip (above) with 6 more .45 ACP rounds. After that, your emergency had better be over since your next reload will be slow.

The half-moon clips are a fine idea and not too hard to carry in a slim-ish reload pouch. This one might work:

I have one in 4in. They make carriers for loaded moon clips its basically just formed plastic and they are kinda pricey. You can get idpa type with a post that hold 2 or 12 that clip onto your belt. I have some from

http://www.4wheelguns.com/IDPA.html

They are handy but they are not exceptionally quiet. I don't carry a reload generally. I carry a back up gun instead. If you are interested in the formed plastic ones for pocket carry I can see if I can find a link.

Congrats btw Beautiful gun
