S&W 32 6" barrel value?

You can shoot .32 S&W and .32 S&W long. .32 colt might fit in your gun but it's probably not a good idea.

You might want to check that old ammo. It could have some collector value.

Thanks Buzzcook, Yeah I had thought about that when he handed me that old box of ammo. The box is not in good shape at all, one of the flaps on one end is gone. Its not a full 50 rounds and there are two 32 long colt rounds mixed in there.

.32 Long/Short Colt bullets loaded since the 1930s will simply drop through the barrel.

They MAY grab, given that they have a big hollow in the base to blow into the rifling of older Colts that used the heeled bullets, but there's a BIG difference.

I'm betting that accuracy would be nil and leading would be pretty bad.

That's a really nice gun.

You ever want to sell it, let me know. 6" versions are hard to come by.

.32 ammo and the hammer block...

Re: ammo... this may go without saying, but IMHO you should NOT shoot .32 ACP aka .32 Auto in this gun. Doing so is one of those things that fits in the "Not Necessarily Unsafe, But Not Smart, So Don't Do It" category. The maximum pressure of .32 ACP is only marginally higher than .32 S&W Long, so it's unlikely to cause a kB! a quality revolver like a S&W; however, (a) accuracy may be below par due to the light bullet (typically 60-73gr rather than 90-100gr), and (b) the cases may become lodged in the chambers on firing due to the undersize rims. Although this isn't scientific, I'm convinced that the rim problem is the reason I've inspected several S&W .32HE's with broken or visibly bent ejector stars.

Also, the hammer block used on S&W's of this vintage is prone to breakage and arguably should NOT be relied upon as a safety device. Run a search for "wing hammer block" for more info.

Thank you Mike and carguychris for the info. The reason I thought that I could fire all those cartridges was because I found two 32 long colt rounds mixed in the box with the 32 S&W Longs. SO it would be safe to assume some long colts have been fired through this gun. I inspected the bore last night and I don't see any excessive build up of lead and the bore looks well like brand new. The muzzle doesn't have any damage either. At any rate I will only shoot the ammo this gun was designed to shoot as long as I can get it. I ordered 200 rounds of Aguila 32 S&W Long last night. So that will get me started on some brass collection. I'm gonna pick up a set of dies for it too. Man this Wheel Gun Sickness is pretty bad, the support group we have here only ENCOURAGES the addiction!
