S&W 1500 bolt-action

Howa has built far more vanguard rifles for WBY than they have Mark V. Roy did engineer the Mark V. He actually said he just put a bolt behind a mini version of the battleship "big gun" locking breech. I dont claim to be a Sako expert, but I have been told by a good many Sako experts that the Howa is an exact mechanical, though not exact cosmetic, copy of an old Sako action. Cant say for sure. Sako's are out of my personal price range. People who do have them don't want them customized, so I never see any. I sure don't see any real old ones. To me a Howa looks like a pretty close copy of a Remington 700 action. Who knows?

As far as I can tell, the Vanguard is a pretty straightforward copy of a Mauser dual-lug action of the same type that was used to make the S&W 1500 series rifles.

Not sure what tweeks Sako would have added to a basic Mauser action to call it their own, but Wikipedia mentions it, and if it's on the internet it must be true... :D

But, I'm not sure what type of feed/ejector the various rifles we're talking about have, the Mauser captive feed or the post 1964-era push feed...

Yeah, the Vanguards are a lot more affordable for the average shooter. But, that also means that Weatherby hasn't produced any of them... Howa has. That's been my point in this part of the thread. Weatherby trims and markets the guns, but it doesn't make them.
