The House has to act, and they haven't yet. That "child safety gun locks" foolishness could well be a large stumbling block, and if retained, the mandate for the safety locks, the purview of which could grow, could be a problem also.

Last year, The House enacted a "clean bill" amendment problems came up in The Senate. Will we see a replay of this again, will The House accept Senate wording, or will things be "straightened out in conference committee"? Look out for those conference committees, about which the following might be said. No telling what a bill will read, having come out of a conference committee.

It's to much like passing a bill via "voice vote". Our side really needs to stay on top of this.

By the way, have any of you seen the memno sent by Aaron Zelman of JPFO, to Congressman Sensenbrenner on the antics of the ATF, and Sensenbrenner's response? Interesting reading, both items that is, though for different reasons.

The above mentioned may be found as follows

Clinton (D-NY), Nay

No surprise there. Both my represenatives voted yes for this bill *Happy Dance* :)

Yes, they are Dems, but the Republicans have trouble getting someone worth electing up here in ND.

Dodd (D-CT), Nay
Lieberman (D-CT), Nay

I know CT is a Dem state, but with the gun manufacturing history here in CT going back to the 1800's.... I would have thought that they would have been voting to protect the gun makers from those kinds of lawsuits

I guess voting down party lines is more important than doing what's right these days!!! :(

Smith (R-OR) is up for reelection and has been known to be a RINO BIG TIME! so that is the reason that he didn't vote.

We all know what type of "politician" he is here in Oregon. So him not voting didn't come as a big surprise.

As to this

we're stuck having to get a safety lock with each handgun we buy.

All NIB guns come with a gun lock as standard equipment and many have that damn key lock thing. As with used guns, you can get those cheapy things from wally world that can be handed to you and you can throw them away right outside the door (here in Eugene, they have a "law" that says that you must supply a gun lock. You get the gun lock and then you throw the gun lock into a bin outside the door of the shop. Which the shop owners empty out at the end of the day and recycle the locks :D ).

I don't see how having to have gun locks with every gun sold is a problem as long as the definition of the lock isn't a Knox Safe with every gun sale (as in, you have to include a $50 lock with every gun). It's the other amendments that may be added to the bill, as what happened with the last one.

My other senator, wyden, didn't come as a surprise. The man is an idiot, but the idiots in Portland and Eugene still vote for him.

I'm interested on how DeFazio will vote in the house. Funny little man, pro-gun, democrat, socialist (self proclaimed), but isn't that bad of a Rep.

By the way, this board seems to have GREAT participation on it's "Legal/Political" section. You all should be applauded. I don't see near the activity on the other boards I frequent, when it comes to 2nd Amendment issues. Quick story, I had breakfast this morning with 4 other hunters/shooters. Only one had even heard of "The Firearms Protection Act", and he hadn't sent even an e-mail. Yes, I did, chide them a bit! :) Somehow, we need to get more people involved in the process!!!

Just remember that in Britain there were only certain safes that were approved by the government and those cost 1,500 Pounds or about $2,637 in today's dollars. Then the government said that these safes were not "safe" and required the new "approved" safes to be purchased which cost 2,500 Pounds or about $4,395 in today's dollars.

Is this starting to sound familiar, Californians???

So when they start this "safe storage" crap with the "common sense" requirement of a simple trigger lock, remember the Brits and get ready to lay out several thousand dollars for an "approved" safe.
