Just what sort of pins are you shooting?
I've used UMC .38 spec 130 plated RN for pins in a 8" revolver. I've used 9 mm 147 gr cast in a CZ75, just because people kept telling me that 9 mm wasn't enough to do the job. Now 115 gr 9 mm does have issues.
You should be able to use any reasonable .40 ammo and get the job done. I haven't shot a lot of .40 S&W factory stuff, but I found the Speer Lawman 180 gr FMJ to be pretty stout. Hit them solid and you don't need a lot of power.
I've used RWS in .380 & 9 mm and it seemed a bit hotter than say the Remington ammo I'd used before. Not exactly fire breathing either. It's good ammo, but nothing special.
