rules of gunfight

What makes you think there are rules in gun fights? Are the rules stipulated before the fight starts? What happens if someone breaks the rules in the said fight? How many refs are going to be present?

It's funny though, I've done several FOF with a stuffed animal as a baby that you have to carry about. I didn't think of using the baby as an impact weapon. Once I was the BG and had to hold the body hostage. Several of us "BGs" actually shielded the hostage baby when fight started.

I guess you haven't seen the "baby ghillie suit", or even the "puppy ghillie suit". It is hard for anyone to attack you when you are covered in babies, or in puppies :D

Rules of a gunfight

I couldn't agree more with Mr. Armstrong's "Avoid getting into gunfights" rule. There really are no positive outcomes to a gunfight. Whether it's injury or death at the hands of your assailant, ending up in jail, spending your lifes savings not to go to jail, or simply the hell a normal person goes through in the wake of a self defense shooting there really are no winners, only survivors!
If you can't avoid having to shoot to live then "If you find yourself in a fair fight your tactics suck" might be a good rule.

Avoidance definitely sounds like it should be the first rule, perhaps the only rule.

I don't even like the way 'gunfight' sounds, the 'fight' part makes it sound like the other participant/s have a chance. With guns involved the other person/s having a chance doesn't sound good.

As far as 'fair,' or 'cheating' go those are terms that apply to breaking rules of a game. Shooting at someone, or being shot at, as I'm certain we are all aware, is not a game. So if we all agree it is not a game and could easily cost you your life, then anything we might do to prevail would be neither unfair, or cheating.

Rule # 1: Avoid fights at all reasonable costs.

Rule # 2: If you find yourself in a fight and don't know what to do, I can't help you. You should have planned that out before you got into a fight dummy.:p

If One doesn't like "Rules", how about "Principles"?

Just to keep this simple

1. Cooper's Dictum: Have a Gun.
Cirillo's Corollary: In a gunfight, have the biggest gun you can get.

2. Pittock's Dictum: Be Alert. (The world needs more lerts.)

3. Tuco's Dictum: When it's time to shoot, don't talk, Shoot!
Archie's Corollary: Anyone worth shooting is worth shooting well.

There are explanations for all these, but this is the fast version.

Kind of on topic...
Notice to thugs...
It is not the man who can kick yer butt you need to worry about! It is the one who knows he cannot or the guy who just doesn't feel like fist fighting that you need to avoid like the plague!:D:cool:

Rules are for games- games have winners and losers
Gun fights are NOT games
Therefore there are no rules, there are no winners, there are no losers
There are only SURVIVORS
One should do ANYTHING possible to SURVIVE
When you do anything possible to SURVIVE, and have some luck on your side,
Then you will survive to tell everyone else that gun fights are NOT games!

The most important rule of the gunfight is that when its over and the cops show up you say...

that is the bad guy, he attacked me, I will sign the complaint, those are the witnesses, here is my identification, that is the weapon and I wont say anything more until I speak to a lawyer... Better yet, just hand them the identification, say nothing and then ask for an attorney.

If you think some of these guys are bad on this message forum, wait until you are confronted with them personally right after the gun fight. Your words will be twisted, misquoted and not put in your favor. There wont be any moderators like Pax to save the day. Its best to say nothing, hand over your identification and ask for a lawyer.

Make sure to write down everything that happens to include what you did say or what was said to you in great detail.

Very well said---Gunfights last for years and you don't get to take back anything that happens after the Police get there...........SHUT AND LAWYER UP in that order.

I was at a training course recently, and was amazed that gangbangers would not lawyer up in some cases for days.

Amazing.

pasted from another forum :) noticed some were posted like this but i didnt feel like deleting same ones out so bare with me :)

Drill Sergeant Joe B. Fricks Rules For A Gunfight

1. Forget about knives, bats and fists. Bring a gun. Preferably, bring at least two guns. Bring all of your friends who have guns. Bring four times the ammunition you think you could ever need.

2. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammunition is cheap - life is expensive. If you shoot inside, buckshot is your friend. A new wall is cheap - funerals are expensive

3. Only hits count. The only thing worse than a miss is a slow miss.
4. If your shooting stance is good, you're probably not moving fast enough or using cover correctly.

5. Move away from your attacker and go to cover. Distance is your friend. (Bulletproof cover and diagonal or lateral movement are preferred.)

6. If you can choose what to bring to a gunfight, bring a semi or full-automatic long gun and a friend with a long gun.

7. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, stance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived.

8. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating, reloading, and running. Yell "Fire!" Why "Fire"? Cops will come with the Fire Department, sirens often scare off the bad guys, or at least cause then to lose concentration and will.... and who is going to summon help if you yell "Intruder," "Glock" or "Winchester?"

9. Accuracy is relative: most combat shooting standards will be more dependent on "pucker factor" than the inherent accuracy of the gun.

10. Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

11. Stretch the rules. Always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose.

12. Have a plan.

13. Have a back-up plan, because the first one won't work. "No battle plan ever survives 10 seconds past first contact with an enemy."

14. Use cover or concealment as much as possible, but remember, sheetrock walls and the like stop nothing but your pulse when bullets tear through them.

15. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours.

16. Don't drop your guard.

17. Always tactical load and threat scan 360 degrees. Practice reloading one-handed and off-hand shooting. That's how you live if hit in your "good" side.

18. Watch their hands. Hands kill. Smiles, frowns and other facial expressions don't (In God we trust. Everyone else keep your hands where I can see them.)

19. Decide NOW to always be aggressive ENOUGH, quickly ENOUGH.

20. The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get.

21. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet if necessary, because they may want to kill you.

22. Be courteous to everyone, overly friendly to no one.

23. Your number one option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

24. Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun, the caliber of which does not start with anything smaller than "4".

25. Use a gun that works EVERY TIME. "All skill is in vain when an Angel blows the powder from the flintlock of your musket." At a practice session, throw you gun into the mud, then make sure it still works. You can clean it later.

26. Practice shooting in the dark, with someone shouting at you, when out of breath, etc.

27. Regardless of whether justified of not, you will feel sad about killing another human being. It is better to be sad than to be room temperature.

28. The only thing you EVER say afterwards is, "He said he was going to kill me. I believed him. I'm sorry, Officer, but I'm very upset now. I can't say anything more. Please speak with my attorney."

Finally, Drill Sergeant Frick's Rules For Un-armed Combat.
1. Never be unarmed.

Shoot to kill; slow is smooth, smooth is fast. And this:

There is no such thing as a fair fight, you do what you must to survive. I suppose the rules are set forth by federal, state, and local laws; but all of them are secondary to survival. Also, if you get shot, it does not mean you are dead and it does not mean you are out of the fight.
