Ruger's new GP100 Match Champion

The grips have an odd angle I would have to try but the checkering is interesting. I'm with everyone, a match gun with drift adjustable sights, what was Ruger thinking.
I personally prefer the full lug to the half one.
But one thing that's negative to me is the florescent street sign on the side of the barrel, just puts me off. Face it, Ruger went off the reservation when they started putting the Gettysburg address on their guns years ago. That is one of my biggest faults with Ruger.

I don't mind a fixed sight on a "match" gun, as long as the manufacturer really sighted it in. I like mine to print dead on at 25 yards, not 5 or 15 yards. It is really frustrating to have a gun that hits way high at 25 yards because some "expert" at the factory felt all combat was at 5-7 yards, or the average shooter always shoots at close range AT the range. When sighted for short range, you have nothing to work with when adjusting fixed sights; no matter how much you file off, you still hit high.:D Fixed sights should come with higher than needed front sights in order to adjust. Left and right is easy. Also, if night sights are included, filing off to adjust isn't possible, either. They have to be right the first time. Maybe adjustable sight ARE better. So, are you listening, Ruger? How about you, S&W?

It's like...

If a Smith and Wesson model 66 & a Ruger GP100 had a baby... :D .

It's not bad. I could see a few wheel gun supporters wanting it.

The .357magnum is still a potent round for home defense or carry. ;)

>>Is the stainless more akin to the regular GP100 model or the brushed matte of the Wileys?<<

If the latter I'm definitely not interested!

I don't care for the appearance of this one compared to the original GP100. It has a weird shape to it.

Wow!
Love that GP!
No need for a target model for me though as all my GPs are extremely accurate as is but, nice option.

I'm liking this GP100 Competition model. Looks like Ruger has done their homework on what's needed for IDPA and CC of a robust 357. The half lug bbl is a big + for me as it makes it lighter from the holster and quicker to swing and stabilize on target. The action shims and tuning is THE selling point for this GP. As far as putting a name on the barrel of the weapon, it is nostalgic as it reminds me of the glory years of Colt when such names as Official Police, Officer's Model Match, and Python and others appeared on the barrels of their revolvers.

I've already called my LGS and said order it today for me. I shoot in a revolver league and look forward to running a "company" model in the contests.

Strictly speaking, it's not a "target" model. :)
I find the package just as good as a field gun as it is an IDPA gun.

This model works for me as a quick shooting, short to medium distance "combat" type revolver. If I want to shoot tiny groups at 50 yds I will use my M27 5".

This Match Champion is a Model 10 on Steroids with improved sights more horsepower and a Hogue grip. If I were working the street again as a Deputy Sheriff this gun would be the six gun to go to with the addition of night sights.

Our revolver league is an IDPA oriented league and I think this GP/MC should shine. I've got a set of the old Lett's fixed sight grips to go on it.

I'm hoping Meprolight or Trijicon will make some night sights for this blaster.

See ya at the range!

Working on the older compact grip for mine.
Have two basic rubbers from Midway, have an order in for two sets of black Micarta panels from a custom guy.

I prefer those compacts on the half-lugged & 3-inch GPs. They just fit my hand perfectly & point better.

Denis: Would you mind telling me where and who is doing the Black Micarta inserts. Think they would look great on the MC.

If you don't want to divulge your source I understand.

Put down half on a GP 100MC today at my LGS. $306.00 for 50% down. Now the wait.

Tim Perkes at Tim's Workshop in Utah. Giggle him. :)
Says the two pairs I've got on order may take one to two months, but I want something a little stronger than wood & I'm in no hurry.
Prices are good & he has everything but the rubber, which I already have.

I have a pair of Holly grips from Tim that are wonderful.

Denis: Thanks for the info. I screwed up the price quoted to me at the LGS for the MC was $712.00. I put down half, but they don't know when they will be getting one in. So do a photo shoot and tease us with what this guy looks like in real life and working!:)

Tenn: Thanks for the confirmation on Denises info. Google is my friend.

Mule,
I can't do much more than general commentary here without conflicting with publication on the article submitted today. :)

I can safely say it looks like a gun, feels like a gun, sounds like a gun, and shoots like a gun.
Has the usual gun things on it, hammer, trigger, barrel, etc.

You'll have to kinda generate images in your head till you get yours. :)
