Ruger Super Redhawks are sharp lookin!

I really love the way they build these revolvers in a sleek one piece barrel like this. And the smooth cylinder looks real nice. I wish that they made this revolver in spurless.

I did find one spurless revolver, the SP-101. But it doesnt look as "cool" as the super Redhawk. Hmm, decisions decisions. Any of you guys have either one of these?

Yes, they look cool. Cool or not, that Alaskan is one big handfull to shoot. Rugers are built like tanks, in particular the SRH.

It shouldn't be too expensive for a gunsmith to fix that spur on the SRH, if it really bugs you. ;)

I took a shine to these too when I saw the first pictures. I have yet to see one in the flesh. I'm not real happy with those grips though....I like the fact that they cover the backstrap, but why so long in the back?? Looks out of balance. :barf:

Without the oversized grips on that thing, I think it would be very hard to control it, considering it is a .454 cassul ;)

I still havn't been totally sold on any of the Super Redhawks, yet.

Keep in mind the SRH uses GP100 grips, so there are quite a few to choose from. Those Hogue grips will help with the recoil, but not the best looking.

.44mag

Those two revo's are "apples and oranges" the caliber they shoot anyways. The DAO sp101 I own is great. Handles those .357 magnums as much as I can. I will be ordering up an " alaskan" soon. Ive purchased a nice smith and wesson shooting glove to acomodate. Hopefully it helps a bit in the recoil/carpal tunnel syndrome dept. :)

I am getting my .44 mag SRH Alaskanized right now, I'll post pics as soon as I get it back. My gunSmith has 4 others to do now. Won't be as smooth looking like the real ruger alaskan, but it will be smooth enough for a real Alaskan..:)..

ETA: now who makes a holster for it?

If you think the .44 Magnum is a powerful, hard-kicking cartridge, know that the .454 Casull is nearly 1 1/2 times more powerful, and operates at more than 15,000 psi greater pressure. It develops an entirely different level of recoil and is not intended for casual shooting.

whoaahhh. i thought my .357 Magnum snubbie had some kick. has anyone every fired any of these beasts?? what are they for shooting grizzly bears?? I hate to admit it, I just like it cause it real mean lookin. I mean look at that barrel. Its beautiful.

They're for Grizzly bear defense. Personally I like the looks of the Taurus RagingBull, very modern and somewhat tactical looking. They both have elephant size balls. :D

The Ruger Alaskan isn't mean looking, serious it looks like it's been beaten up with an ugly stick. Just an opinion.

One guy up here carries his sawed off 454 SRH for CCW..:)..packs pretty good. He says that recoil was not too bad, but then again, I did mention that he packs it for ccw, didn't I?

Remember that any .454 Casull gun can shoot 45 Colt. So you can have all the fun you want plinking with the 45 Colt ammo. Then have some REAL fun with the .454. :D I believe that will moonclips they will also shoot 45 Auto. Can anyone confirm this?

Im sold on the alaskan. Im about to buy one (well, as soon as some money comes my way anyway). I was looking for a good "backpacking" gun and was probably going to go with 10mm, but I think the alaskan will do it all better.

Heck, I agree the SRH's, both the long barrel versions and the new snubs are sharp looking.

Personally, I'm thinking of a .454 Alaskan to go with a long barrel version. I'll probably pack .45 Colts in it though. Heck of a concealable powerhouse.

my SRH 44mag 9.5"

My ruger super redhawk 44mag in 9.5" with hogue rubber grips and right now I have my scout scope for my marlin 357mag on it, makes me feel more tingle feelings. I am a big Ruger fan I did a company report in org. behavior management class for college on the Sturm & Ruger Co Inc.
I wishthey offered this model in target grey and I am considering getting it magna ported.

What I am trying to figure out is where ruger puts their version of "War and piece" on the side of the Alaskan. That was another consideration in getting my SRH's barrel cut down, I hated seeing all the darn legalese written on the side. I keep waiting for ruger to just engrave the instruction manual on each of their guns.

yekimak:

How much are you being charged for the work on your SRH and what arrangement did you make for the front sight?
I'm imagining the scopering scallops will still be there in case you want to put a red-dot on top...

I just sent my NEW SRH/.44 to a refinisher in Florida to have the gun BLACKENED.
It will be a few weeks before I get it back and can post pix of it ( complete with the instruction manual on the left side of the bbl. ).

It could be a candidate for shortening someday...unless Ruger comes out with the blued .44 Alaskan like I told 'em to. :D

$200 for buzz down, recrown, milling dovetail and installing a new front sight. Helluva deal that I would not have normally gone for and done myself, but I did not have access to a mill to do the dovetail, nor any idea what sight to use. the sight black with a bright orange groove on the ramp, nice high viz kind of thing.

Sites I have seen online charge at least $500 for the procedure (magnaport, etc) but add foo foo options that I do not need.

All I care about is having something fast and handy and powerful incase of a time of need for such a thing (something big, hairy and mad between me and the 12 gauge), or to have in the sleeping bag with me, etc.

If the bullet don't get 'em, the fireball will :).
