The way you describe the trigger break is the same as the Ruger P97 trigger break in SA mode.
Seems like a Ruger design philosophy.
I am not thrilled about it, but the lack of 'stacking' before it breaks means I don't anticipate/flinch as much.
And our finger shouldn't be on the trigger unless it was pointed at what we want to put a hole in, so it doesn't bother me too much.
Just a point of reference.
I personally like the M&P feel in my hand better, but am in California and can't get either now.
